Ranji Trophy 2021-22: After withdrawing from the league stage of the 2021-22 Ranji Trophy season three months ago, Wriddhiman Saha has returned to the Bengal squad in preparation for their quarterfinal match against Jharkhand. It is slated to take place on June 6 in Bengaluru. The Cricket Association of Bengal has also brought on fast bowler Mohammed Shami as a new member of the team. His participation, on the other hand, would be contingent on the BCCI and head coach Rahul Dravid’s clearance. It will take into account the amount of effort he has already put in.
However, it is the return of Saha, who is 37 years old, that is generating a commotion. He skipped the league stage due to “personal reasons.” Saha’s homecoming has caused a stir. It was discovered that Saha had been told by head coach Dravid that he may not be in the plans going forward. Then, he was left out of India’s Test squad for the home series against Sri Lanka.
Saha is back in the Bengal squad
During the current season of the Indian Premier League 2022, in which Saha is participating with the Gujarat Titans, he has been quite outstanding. The wicketkeeper-batsman has contributed significantly to the success of the team by scoring some important runs. He has scored a total of 281 runs in just eight matches. Saha has a strike rate of 123.25 and an average of 40.14. His knocks include three scores in the fifty-plus range. One of which was good enough to win him the Player of the Match title.
Abhishek Porel, the Bengal team’s second wicketkeeper, has been performing well in Saha’s absence. Saha is the team’s primary wicketkeeper. The veteran wicketkeeper, Shreevats Goswami, was once again not selected for the squad. Presently, Goswami may be seen participating in club cricket in England. In addition to Shami, Mohammed Kaif, Shami’s younger brother, and Ankit Mishra, a left-arm spinner who excelled at the Under-25 level, are also members of the squad.
Ranji Trophy 2021-22: The BCCI will decide Mohammed Shami’s participation
Shami has been a consistent member of the Indian Test squad. The test squad will go to England shortly after the completion of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The two sides will play one test match. It was originally scheduled for last year but was postponed owing to concerns about the Covid-19 virus. According to ESPNCricinfo, the decision about whether or not to include Shami in the Bengal Ranji squad is now in the hands of the BCCI and Dravid. They will make the ultimate decision.
In the opening match of the first quarterfinal, which will take place on June 6, Bengal will face off against Jharkhand. On June 22, 2021-22, the first ball will be bowled in the championship match of the Ranji Trophy.
