Reports are emerging that English giants Manchester United are keen on landing José Giménez at Old Trafford, in the days to come. The 21 year old superstar has been rock solid in Atletico’s defence and has been selected regularly for the first team, which has caught the attention of a number of top clubs in recent times.
United have not found a good replacement for their defensive pairing of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand and have been struggling at the back since the end of the Sir Alex Ferguson era.
There has not been a long term strong partnership at back. Giménez stands 6 feet tall and has every physical ability that an ideal defender should have.
At the age of 21, he has already faced likes of Luis Suarez and Cristiano Ronaldo while he has also played a couple of Copa America tournaments and a World Cup as well.
No wonder, such a young and immensely talented youngster won’t come for peanuts. As a result, his release clause rises up ridiculously to an amount of £56m.
With the Red Devils’ fierce rivals Arsenal sniffing around, whom they face at Old Trafford today, United are all set to offer a fee of about £50m for the services of Giménez next summer.
It is yet to be seen if United can pull off another big money signing or not, though a deal would really make things much better for manager Jose Mourinho, whose team have not had the best of starts of the current campaign.
