Another day, and another instance of Cristiano Ronaldo making the headlines for all the wrong reasons. Ronaldo was seen showing dissent to the manager by walking off the pitch before the game ended. This happened after being asked to come on as a late sub. It has now been revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo has been suspended for a week. He has also been fined two weeks wages for his transgressions by the manager.
The club itself came out with a statement the next day saying that Ronaldo will not be a part of the squad that will face fellow top-4 rivals Chelsea at Stamford bridge on Saturday.
This news has seen the entire Manchester United (and the Cristiano Ronaldo) fanbase divided by the severity of the punishment. Scores of fans are believing that Ronaldo is the victim rather than what is being portrayed outside.
And one of those people happens to be former cricketer Kevin Pietersen. The former England captain and one of the finest batsmen England has produced is not happy with the way one of the biggest names in football has been treated at Old Trafford this season.
And he made his feelings very clear in a recent Instagram comment. The Instagram handle of Manchester United had recently posted a collection of pictures where cricketers from different countries paid the club and the stadium a visit.
The likes of Glenn McGrath, Jasprit Bumrah, Dinesh Karthik, Michael Vaughan, and many more were in that picture. The caption read, “It is the T20 World Cup season. We have welcomed cricketing legends. Played at iconic venues and met up with plenty of heroes over the years”.
However, Kevin Pietersen, who was one of the people mentioned in the post, was rather unhappy about this. Making his feelings known about being in the post as well as about the current situation, KP commented below saying, “Please take my picture down?. I don’t want an association with a club that’s managed by a clown who is disrespecting the greatest footballer of our time. Cristiano is the boss. That clown who no one will ever remember, needs a wake-up”.
Naturally, the comment was not received well by the people in and around the club. And it was no surprise to see that the club went ahead and banned Pietersen from commenting or interacting with their posts. They did so on all forms of Social Media. Further, the Red Devils also took down his picture from the original post.
Well it seems like being a Ronaldo fan is kind of a crime these days. But you can be a Ronaldo fan without calling the manager a “clown”. And especially someone who has a high following himself making such a statement will obviously set a wrong example and leave a bad taste as well. Safe to say that KP had this coming.
