Jorginho, a midfielder for Chelsea, is said to be waiting for Barcelona to make an offer before he decides what to do next

A report from the Spanish newspaper SPORT says that Barcelona is interested in Jorginho. The Catalan giants want to get the 30-year-old Chelsea midfielder for free when his contract with Chelsea runs out at the end of the season.

Since coming to Chelsea from Napoli, Jorginho has become an important player. And it will be interesting to see if the Blues are willing to let him go in the summer. There have been rumours of a possible contract extension. It remains to be seen if the two sides can agree soon.

Will Jorginho move to Barcelona?

SPORT says that Barcelona has already talked with the player’s agent, Joao Santos, about a possible move. And Jorginho has told the big clubs in Catalonia that he will wait until the Blaugrana make a transfer offer before making a final decision about his future with Chelsea.

So, it’s safe to assume that the player is interested in joining Barcelona soon. That goes against what Jorginho’s agent said recently, which was that he will put staying at Chelsea first.

Losing such a good and experienced player for nothing would be a huge blow to Chelsea. And the Blues need to do everything they can to sign him to a contract extension as soon as possible.

Also, Jorginho is not the only player at the west London club who could leave for free. N’Golo Kante, a French international, is also getting close to the end of his contract at Stamford Bridge. He could be on his way out.

What’s the matter?

As soon as the January transfer window opens, the Italian player will be able to talk to foreign clubs about pre-contract agreements. So, if Chelsea wants to sign Jorginho to a new deal, they will have to act quickly.

At 30, this might be Jorginho’s last chance to get a good contract. And Chelsea might need to increase his pay to get him to sign an extension. At the same time, Barcelona needs someone to replace Sergio Busquets for the long term. Even though Jorginho isn’t an option for the long term, he could be a good backup for the next few years.

After the European disaster against Bayern Munich, which added to a growing list of European embarrassments, Barcelona will be looking for some good news when they play Valencia at Mestalla on Saturday Night Football.

Wednesday should not be talked about much. Barça sucked in Europe. This is painfully clear and painfully obvious. Under Xavi Hernández, they do really well in La Liga. So their goals for the rest of the season should be pretty clear. Beating Real Madrid in the domestic marathon to win the league title would be a big deal.
