An update on a Bundesliga target that Arsenal sports director Edu Gaspar has been following for some time has given the club a chance to make a cheap transfer deal in January.
The German publication Sport Bild reports that the transfer fee for the player the Gunners want, Marcus Thuram, may be as low as £6 million.
The Frenchman’s contract is up at the end of the season. Fabrizio Romano told GIVEMESPORT last month that the 25-year-old is “not going to extend the contract. So Edu could make a dream move for the forward in January if they wanted to.
The 25-year-old is presently competing in the World Cup for France. He is looking to follow in his father Lilian’s footsteps by bringing home the trophy.
Thuram has been fantastic for Borussia Monchengladbach this year. He has scored 13 goals and added four assists across all competitions. The forward has been particularly impressive in the Bundesliga this year. He has a 7.19 average Sofascore and is responsible for an additional three big chances per game, 0.9 key passes per match, and a 61% success rate on his attempted dribbles, proving that he is more than just a goal-scoring machine.
The primary center striker for the north London club, Gabriel Jesus, has scored only five goals this season. So it’s evident that Arteta still wants to add to his attacking options.
Can Edu Gaspar get Marcus Thuram?
If the World Cup ends and the club can sign Thuram for £6 million, then the Spanish manager will have more money to spend on improving the team’s other weak spots, such as the middle of the field.
Denis Zakaria has already gushed over the Frenchman, calling him “crazy,”. The Frenchman’s impressive statistics this season indicate that he is capable of excelling at the top level. So a transfer to England shouldn’t bother him.
Edu could deliver a significant psychological blow by bringing the forward to Arsenal. He faces competition from the Premier League clubs like Aston Villa, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur if they don’t sign him before the transfer window closes.
Mikel Arteta wants to add a new midfielder to the team, preferably one who can play defense also. Bennacer brings something new to the position compared to Thomas Partey, which makes him an intriguing adversary.
Arsenal want Ismael Bennacer
Danilo of Palmeiras has been linked to Arsenal. The Gunners are expected to make another offer for him before the January transfer market begins. Partey is indispensable to Arteta’s operation and is not going anywhere soon. Therefore, it is crucial to get a player who can step in for the Ghanaian and flourish while learning from Arteta.
When it comes to central midfielders, Chelsea is in a bind. The futures of influential pair Jorginho and N’Golo Kante remain unclear, with a probable summer exit for both players.
The possibility of Jorginho leaving the club and returning to Italy due to his rumoured salary demands has increased. As a result, Chelsea may jump on the Bennacer scenario if they see a good enough fit.
