Arsenal Newsnow: The current leaders of the Premier League, Arsenal, will send scouts to Greece to check out Giannis Konstantelias, a young sensation who has been compared to Lionel Messi. According to the Evening Standard, the Gunners are one of several teams interested in signing the 19-year-old starlet. Konstantelias spent the previous six months playing for Belgian club Eupen after beginning his career with PAOK. Manchester City, in addition to Arsenal, is keeping tabs on him.

According to reports, PAOK wants £10 million for their little Messi but won’t allow him to go straight now. It’s expected that they won’t sell unless they can immediately loan the player back for the rest of the 2022–23 campaign. The Greek’s distinguishing characteristics were emphasized by local journalist Stavros Kolkas in 2021, who drew comparisons to the legendary Messi (via TheBootRoom):

“PAOK’s youth team has a player who looks like Lionel Messi. He came on against Larissa when the score was 0-0 at halftime. PAOK won 5-0 because he scored two goals and set up two more.”

The person who found Konstantelias, Alexandros Malakasiotis, said: “This kind of player doesn’t come along every day. Even every 50 years is too long. He has some special abilities. Here, we were able to watch Konstantelias grow up. He was as noticeable as a fly in milk. He is a big deal to me. If you watch how he moves through and into space, you’ll know what he’s about. When he goes up against just one player, it’s like watching Neymar.”

Arsenal Newsnow: Will Giannis Konstantelias move to Arsenal?

Leeds United, PSV Eindhoven, Crystal Palace, and Valencia are among the clubs interested in the player, along with Arsenal and City. Konstantelias has started all 13 games he has played in for PAOK this season. He has been a key contributor with four assists thanks to his versatility as a ball handler in attack and defence. The young Greek star, like Messi, enjoys taking on defenders and setting up his teammates for scores.
