Manchester United vs Manchester City: "This Is Why We Support The GOAL...", Premier League Finally Reveals Why The Bruno Fernandes Goal Was Legit Even When Marcus Rashford Was Offside

Manchester United vs Manchester City: The result of today’s Manchester derby was decided by a contentious goal scored by Bruno Fernandes despite the fact that Marcus Rashford was offside, giving Manchester United a 2-1 victory against an equally devastated Manchester City.

United’s first goal of the game came from Bruno Fernandes. The referee first called out for offside, then the VAR overturned it. VAR official Michael Oliver assessed the goal immediately and overturned his first call of offside after determining that Rashford had not significantly impeded play.

Man City manager Pep Guardiola yelled angrily from the sidelines as his players swarmed referee Stuart Attwell in protest at what they thought to be a bad call. Afterwards, the Premier League gave an explanation to the TV networks as to why the goal was allowed to stand.

They said: “The flag went up, ref and linesman had a conversation, deemed no touch on the ball from Rashford and no impact on the defender being able to play the ball. VAR could not find evidence of clear and obvious error so supports the goal.”

Former referee Peter Walton spoke more about the goal on BT Sport. He said: “You’re quite right in saying that Rashford has moved for the ball, hasn’t interfered with the ball, hasn’t played the ball himself, the flag goes up because of the offside position but when VAR look at this and when the assistant discusses this with Stuart Atwell, I think this is a goal.”

Rashford scored United’s second only three minutes after City had recovered from their first goal. Thus, giving his team the three points they so needed to continue their strong play of recent weeks.

About the match:

With 38 points after 18 games, United is currently one point behind Pep Guardiola’s City. City will need to be on their toes since United has progressively come up to them owing to City’s terrible play.

Marcus Rashford, who has been in fine form lately, scored the game-winning goal in Manchester United’s 2-1 come-from-behind victory against Manchester City on Saturday. With the win, United closed the gap to one point on the Premier League winners.

In a tight first half at Old Trafford, the hosts had the better opportunities. Rashford (in form for England) had a weak attempt denied on the line by Manuel Akanji. City failed to get going. When substitute Jack Grealish met a wonderful cross from the ever-dependable Kevin De Bruyne in the 61st minute, City took the lead thanks to their better performance after the interval.

United’s equalizer in the 78th minute stood after a VAR review, despite the fact that the referee called Rashford in an offside position as Bruno Fernandes slid the ball in. Rashford then rescued United with a late winner, his ninth goal. United extended their unbeaten streak to nine games and closed the deficit on City to just two points in the Premier League standings.
