Tottenham Hotspur Set To Spend €20 Million To Sign A Central Defender Permanently

Mundo Deportivo reports (via SportWitness) that Tottenham Hotspur has shown interest in signing Clement Lenglet permanently. The 27-year-old Barcelona defender is on loan at Tottenham and has made a good impression. They would want to retain him at the club and are actively working to do so.

Lenglet first played for Barcelona in the 2018 summer. The French international player spent four years with the Catalan club. The 27-year-old had his fair share of opportunities. However, he was unable to establish himself as a starter. And he is now playing for Tottenham on loan. Lenglet has played more than 2,500 minutes for the Spurs in 33 appearances. He has also helped the team out by scoring once and setting up two others.

To keep Clement Lenglet, a 27-year-old central defender for Barcelona, Tottenham Hotspur is prepared to pay €20 million

The London club has benefited from his presence. The fans and staff alike are pleased with his play so far this season. Even though he is expected to return to his original club in the summer, Tottenham is thinking about making a permanent move to sign him. The loan deal between Spurs and Barcelona for Lenglet does not contain a purchase option or obligation for Lenglet. The club, though, is very interested in signing him. They are now in negotiations with Barcelona to do so.

Meanwhile, the Catalan giants are experiencing financial difficulties. They need to sell some players before they can afford to recruit any new ones. In order to obtain capital, they have compiled a list of player trade candidates. Lenglet is expected to be transferred as well, according to news accounts.

The 27-year-old Lenglet has impressed Spurs to the point that the club is willing to spend €20 million to secure his services. In preparation for the next season, they want to strengthen their defence. They may need some assistance at the left-centre back, where they lack depth. So, the permanent addition of Lenglet would be a big boost. Whether or not €20 million is enough to make him a permanent member of the club’s roster remains to be seen.

Neymar is considering leaving PSG for Premier League club Newcastle United. The French powerhouses want to get rid of the 31-year-old offensive target. He has caught the eye of Chelsea and Manchester United. However, a deal for the Brazilian is fraught with difficulties. Recent developments suggest that Neymar’s tenure at Paris Saint-Germain may soon come to an end. The 31-year-old has been involved in more controversy than is required since his arrival in Paris after a bizarre trade from Barcelona.

The club’s management has expressed frustration with his lifestyle choices, late-night gatherings, and general behaviour on several occasions. To further cement his future with PSG, Neymar exercised a contract provision that will keep him at the club until 2027. The club is considering benching the Brazilian because of this and his €40 million annual wage.
