Match-Day Centre : How Liverpool’s Win Failed To Be A Threat For Chelsea’s Championship Bound Side

Though there is no doubt that every game in the top flight of English football is a must-win match, Liverpool’s 2-1 triumph over Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium seemed rather pointless, with regards to the title race, after Chelsea managed to beat Bournemouth 3-1 on the night. The Reds’ fans would have hoped that their side would possibly cut down the gap between them and their domestic rivals, though things did not work out as plan.

Though the Cherries had been performing really well against the top teams in the Premier League this term, they could not once again deliver a great result against Antonio Conte’s side.

On the other hand, Jurgen Klopp’s team secured all three points on the night, with a couple of goals in the space of just three minutes, to keep their hopes of a potential title challenge alive.

A goal by Philippe Coutinho, followed by a superb individual goal by his Brazilian compatriot Roberto Firmino set up a great win for the Merseyside outfit, on their travels against the Potters.

However, the west London outfit were quick to respond as well in the match at Dean court, which meant that things were back to square one and the advantage gained by Liverpool was lost once again.

The difference now between the two sides is 12 points, with the league leaders still having one game in hand, which gives them a huge advantage in the battle to finish as champions once again.

Teams have been trying very hard to make Chelsea drop points, so that there is still some hope for them to catch up with the Londoners, though with each win that they secure, the title seems to be on its way back to Stamford Bridge.

It will now be interesting to see what kind of result Manchester United and Arsenal produce in their games today, after a 3-1 City win over Hull yesterday too, as the race of spots in the points table is still on.
