Why Jose Mourinho Might Still Have The Last Laugh, Despite Manchester United’s 2-0 Loss To Arsenal

Jose Mourinho’s team was humiliated at the Emirates on Sunday evening, as they travelled to north London to face off against a resilient Arsenal side, who were not ready to drop any points at home and were keen on finishing in the top four. A goalless half was followed by a second, which saw the Gunners score twice, as they looked to climb up the table, into a Champions League spot.

The Portuguese manager would have not exactly liked what he saw on the night, as his side suffered a 2-0 loss, though he knew that he had some bigger plans for the Red Devils’ future.

Any football fan, following the action regularly will know that Mourinho’s men take on Celta Vigo, in the second leg of their Europa League semi-finals fixture.

Just a couple of wins could ensure that the Premier League giants would win the cup competition and if that happens all this wouldn’t really matter.

A “final win” would ensure that United, not just lift another title in Mourinho’s debut season at Old Trafford, but also would give the club a chance to be part of the Champions League next term.

Currently, the Gunners are in a fix as well and might eventually not finish in the top four of the top flight of English football.

If they do not manage to do so and the Manchester based side does eventually manage to win the Europa League, which does seem like a possibility now, the loss will not really have any impact.

Yes, United might have lost a bit of pride on the night. However, if they can ensure a safe return to Europe’s top cup competition, it will be quite a masterstroke on Mourinho’s part, who has already won the League Cup this term.

On the other hand, the north Londoners also have a shot at winning the FA Cup and securing at least one trophy this season, if they can manage to beat Antonio Conte’s Chelsea side, in the finals at Wembley.

Things have not been working out well for Wenger and his team and the win against their fierce rivals would have given them a huge boost.

This season could have a really interesting end to it, with a fight for a place in the top four and some major cup finals coming our way. Who will end up where, winning what, will be decided in a matter of days. Only time will tell.
