The Update-
The 32 year old Spain international was heavily linked to the Blues last summer too and for a while it looked like a reunion with Antonio Conte was on the cards but then Llorente joined Swansea City and Chelsea snapped Michy Batshayi instead from Marseille’s for £33.2m.
However, if recent reports are to be believed then Antonio Conte has reignited his intrest to sign the Spaniard to play as a back up for an incoming striker, Since the Italian is desperate to off load Diego Costa and bring in either Romelu Lukaku from Everton or Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid.
And Chelsea’s interest in him could add more power since Conte wants to send Belgian international Batshayi on loan to give him the taste of more first team experience before he makes a mark in premiere league.
The former Juventus manager is thinking of getting Llorente only as a back up to any incoming striker and his role will only be limited to that and the veteran striker will probably be his priority signing, if Michy leaves loan for the next season.
Why Fernando Llorente?
The Spaniard fits the bills perfectly as he is a similar type of striker as Diego Costa is, He is physical and He fits the mould of a physical force to lead the Blues something that Costa brought to the side over the course of three seasons.
The World Cup winner had a brilliant outing last season as he found the net on 15 occasions and also played a huge role in saving Swansea from the clutches of relegation last term.
The West London outfit are currently in the market to sign a a No 9 and thier former youth academy graduate Romelu Lukaku is thier priority singing this summer as they are looking to sell Deigo Costa to make room for the 24 year old Belgian.
So, Chelsea have chalked out thier targets and are working on them accordingly and coming back to Llorente he is someone who will likely rotate into the team as the Italian’s team will now feature in four competitions this season including the UEFA Champions League.
The Blues are also set to sign a midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko from Ligue 1 Champions AS Monaco probably to replace the out going Serbian international Matic and will also look to replace John Terry who joined Aston Villa last week Conte is eyeing Roma defender Antonio Rudiger to fill the big shoes of Terry at Chelsea.
Injury update-
It has been reported that the attacker has a broken arm, which he suffered in an accident towards the end of last month and could possibly miss the start of the new campaign. The Blues were keen on adding him to their squad and it will be interesting to see whether or not, Conte decides to go ahead with the move.
