Manchester United will face off West Ham United in their opening Premier League game of the season 2017/2018. Manchester United will host West Ham at the Old Trafford on Sunday to round off the opening weekend of action.
United manager José Mourhino will look to get those 3 points and kick off their campaign in a good way but against Slaven Bilic’s West Ham it would be tough.
The Encounter.
This fixture would be played at Old Trafford on Sunday, But one of the most famous encounters between these two Premier League side’s was played at the Upton Park in May 1995.
However the final score of that match was 1-1 but that match decided who would lift the Premier League trophy and it wasn’t Manchester United as they missed their chance to go above Blackburn on the final day of the league.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s side wanted those 3 points desperately to win the league, While they hoped their Arch rivals Liverpool would do them a favour and beat Blackburn at Anfield. Altough Liverpool did their job and beat Blackburn 2-1 but it was United who couldn’t go past Hammers goalkeeper Ludek Miklosko who was in tremendous form that day and denied Manchester United a Premier League title.

Team News.
Manchester United: The Red Devils have no new injury concerns to worry about. Only Luke Shaw, Ashley Young and Marcos Rojo will be sidelined for the fixture. Eric Baily and Phil Jones will be available for this game as they had to sit out for the Uefa super cup due to suspension in the Europa cup final against Ajax. Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic and Victor Lindelof will be the new names in United’s team sheet as they would be handed their debut for United with Lindelof likely starting on the bench.
West Ham United: All new summer arrivals for West Ham will be available for the game. But the hammers will miss Manuel Lanzink, Michail Antonio, Andy Carrol and Cheikhou Kouyata due to injuries, While Diafra Sakho won’t be available for this fixture. Aaron Cresswell may feature for West Ham though he joined the training on Friday.
My Prediction.
Manchester United have enough quality to overcome West Ham United. The big Belgian Romelu Lukaku has good scoring record against the Hammers while he played for Everton and José will be hoping he can add to that tally and convert his chances into goal’s just like he did for the toffee’s.
Javier Hernandez would be returning to his former club Manchester United and may find the net for his new club against the old and may upset his former fans in that process though.
My Score Prediction.
Manchester United 2 – 1 West Ham United.
Confirmed Manchester United XI (4-3-3):
David De Gea, Antonio Valencia, Phil Jones, Eric Bailly, Daley Blind, Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, Juan Mata, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Marcus Rashford, Romelu Lukaku
