The Toughest Problem That Antonio Conte Will Face At Chelsea In The Days To Come

The Writer’s Views-

Read on to see how ruthless the Chelsea management is and why Conte doesn’t stand a chance this year, which is why he might be sacked sooner than most people expect. Let’s race back to the Premier League at the end of 2010-11 season and this was the Chelsea’s statement on their official website:

“The owner and the board would like to thank Carlo for his contribution and achievements since taking over as manager in July 2009, which included winning the double for the first time in the club’s history. However, this season’s performances have fallen short of expectations and the club feels the time is right to make this change ahead of the next season’s preparations.”

In case you missed it, Carlo here refers to Carlo Ancellotti. The manager who had a glorious resume including two champions league titles with Milan before he made the switch to Stamford Bridge.

During Carlo’s eight year tenure at AC Milan, he won more UEFA Champions League titles than Serie A titles.

In his first season at the Bridge ,Carlo won a domestic double at the Bridge.Carlo however couldn’t replicate that in his second season. Despite that, Chelsea weren’t that bad though.

They finished in the second position losing the title to Machester United(the Red Devils 19th title). If we compare it with Mourinho’s 2015/16 season, where they ended in the 11th spot after a league title winning season, Carlo’s second season now looks like quite an achievement.

Now talking of the Italian who is in charge at the Bridge, Antonio Conte, just like Carlo, has done wonderful job in his first season.Won the league with a mammoth 30 league wins. An achievement for the club indeed.

Back in 2006, Abramovich spent $30.8m to land Andriy Shevchenko. Mourinho openly defied Abramovich for sending so much amount on just one player. He benched Shevchenko.

Then again, in 2011 Abramovich spent £50m to land Torres. Carlo has frozen out footballers who don’t fit into his rigid formation, regardless of pedigree or potential.

By benching the Spaniard back then, Ancellotti was essentially slapping Abramovich, just like the case of Mourinho, at the end, the Russian owner was the last man standing.

This season, Conte defied Diego Costa and landed Morata. If the Spaniard lives up to his expectations is yet to be seen.

The limited squad at his disposal and the Champions league coming up once again this term, things would only get more difficult for the Italian.

Abramovich will meet the transfer requirements of Conte this summer. He would want to win the league again this year,or even a good run in the champions league. He wouldn’t want anything less than that.

With the squad they have at their disposal,it is a tough task for Conte. With both the Manchester clubs strengthening massively this season, things look bleak for the London club.Even a top four finish won’t do the trick.winning is the only choice.

Will Conte fight and win titles and eventually win against the ruthless Russian or face the axe just like every other manager who has been at the Bridge. Only time will tell….
