Story Thus Far!!
Tottenham Hotspurs had claimed that their star left-back Danny Rose will not leave the club this season, unless there was an ‘outrageous bid’, though nothing as such happened. The England defender will remain at Mauricio Pochettino’s side after Manchester United have seem to pull out of the race for his signature. Just a while ago, Rose had expressed his desire to leave Tottenham as he was unhappy with the club and the salary that he was receiving.
Although, Rose apologized for the statements he made, this alerted top clubs in England including Manchester United and Chelsea who are keen on securing Rose’s services. Rose is a strong, quick and intelligent left-back. He is able to provide offensive and defensive cover on flanks and is a key outlet for Maurico Pochettino’s side
Jose Mourinho was keen on bringing in a solid left-back at Manchester and so was Conte at Stamford Bridge. But Rose had his heart set on joining United despite local rivals Chelsea preparing a £50m bid for the defender.
The 27 year old England international joined Spurs from Leeds United and has made over 100 league appearances for the club since arriving in 2007. However, after Spurs’ stated that only an ‘outrageous bid’ will force Rose to leave the club, Manchester United and Chelsea are likely to ditch the plans for Rose’s transfer.
Spurs will be winning the battle against United again to keep Rose at the club for the second season in a row.
The January Update-
Jose Mourinho had urged the Red Devils to add the defensive star to their current squad, as the Portuguese manager knew that his team were in need of more defence minded stats. The former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss had seen his side lose come crucial games, due to poor defensive performances, which was an additional reason for him to add the Englishman to his squad.
However, despite his repeated request, the manager’s demands were put on deaf ears and United are still struggling to get their back-line sorted.
They have still not been able to fix a set of players whom they can regularly use in front of De Gea, who has been solid as ever, yet again this term.
The Editor’s View-
Many of the big clubs in the top flight of English football, including the Manchester based side have been struggling with problems within their defence. Mourinho would also be aware of that and the fact that had he won some of these games, things could have been so much more different at present, than what they are now.
The club has lost some crucial points over the course of the current campaign, points that they would have not dropped, if they had a better composed defensive squad.
Mourinho has tried his best thus far to shuffle his players around, in order to get the best possible combination out of them, though eventually it seems that the current players that he has will not be enough and new signings like Rose will surely be added to the squad, sooner or later.
