To shock the footballing world once again with their transfer, Manchester United are currently preparing a move for Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben. Having already secured transfers for big names like Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic and Victor Lindelof this season, it doesn’t seem like Jose Mourinho has finished his transfer business just yet.
With two weeks remaining for the transfer window to shut, Mourinho isn’t giving up his search for a winger. Having being rejected by Inter Milan over a deal for Ivan Perisic, the Portuguese boss is now looking to sign Dutch star Arjen Robben from Bayern.
The news comes as a big surprise, but we shouldn’t be so surprised is a deal takes place after experiencing what the world of football has been like these past few seasons. And though Perisic was United’s prime target, they would certainly be more than happy with Robben filling in the void in that position.
What makes the deal more interesting is that Robben is keen to work with Mourinho again after having a spell together at London club Chelsea. With the German champions, Bayern, looking to focus their development on youngsters have not given Robben, 33 now, a new contract extension, with Robben in the final year of his contract, as the winger fancies a move elsewhere.
The former Real Madrid star is still a huge threat on the flanks with his pace and trickery. With age, Robben seems to have gotten more experienced rather than slower. Surely Robben would be a welcome addition to Old Trafford given the determination and technical ability he shows. He fits the bill regarding what Mourinho wants out of his players.
Could the Dutch international join the Red Devils before the transfer window shuts? United would wish to have him as he would give them a minimum of two seasons given his fitness levels and love for the game.
Robben would be the fourth arrival at the club this season if he joins the Theater Of Dreams. The stellar wide-mad has made 168 appearances for the Bundesliga giants and scored the important Champions League winning goal in the final of 2013 against arch-rivals Dorussia Dortmund.
Zlatan-Like Cameo?
Was this rumour spread with the hopes that Robben would try to do a “Zlatan” and move to The Theatre of Dreams in the days to come, will never be known now. The player did not leave the Allianz Arena, despite the tempting offer from the Premier League giants.
Jose Mourinho’s affection for the winger did not work out in this case, as he will remain with the champions of Germany for more time now, though knowing the Portuguese boss, he will sign the player if he really wants to.
The attacker, though not growing any younger now could provide the team with some key goals at crucial moments, which could help their title ambitions in the days to follow.
Whether that kind of faith is put, in such a veteran star, will be only be seen as the days go by and if he decides to leave Bayern and move to Old Trafford.
