The New Deal!!
Certainly, times are good at the Red side of Manchester. Manchester United are reportedly readying a deal for their big forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic and claim that his contract extension should be completed by the end of this week. Ibrahimovic is currently a free agent after his contract with Manchester United expired in June earlier this year. He arrived from French club Paris Saint Germain as a free transfer to the English Premier League and racked up 28 goals in his first season at Manchester United, including a brace in the final of the Capital One Cup where the Red Devils beat Southampton 3-2, with Ibrahimovic scoring a late header to seal the deal.
However, the big Swede had his season cut a few months short as he suffered a knee injury in a Europa League game against FC Anderlecht in April. The reports claimed that the injury he sustained would keep him out until 2018 and many Zlatan fans feared that the 35 year old’s career may have come to an end.
But Zlatan lives to prove people wrong. Ibrahimovic is still spending time at Manchester United’s rehabilitation center despite his contract expiring in June. But all that now seems to be laid to rest as the former Barcelona man is ready to sign a new contract at Old Trafford as early as this week.
The news comes as a surprise for many Manchester United fans, who are keen to see their superstar back in action soon. United manager Jose Mourinho claims he wants Ibrahimovic to remain at the club.
With Romelu Lukaku being upfront, Zlatan would find it difficult to get too many games under his belt, but just the aura and presence of having such a big name at the club and in the dressing room could be a massive boon for Manchester United.
Having won their first two Premier League games convincingly with a 4-0 margin against Swansea and West Ham United, the sun is shining brightly on United who are sitting pretty at the top of the table with Zlatan ready to further bolster their attacking department.
What Next For The Club?
With City ending their game against Everton, in a 1-1 draw, the scenario is perfect for Mourinho to bring in someone of the calibre of Zlatan, which will only provide a further boost to his team. United are looking to make an impression and win titles and the former Sweden international can surely provide them with the goals that can help them do that.
The ball is in the court of the Portuguese manager, who will now be looking to develop this small advantage that he has over his rivals into something bigger and better, which can probably help his team to win, not just the league but more major titles.
