Retain Or Let Him Go?
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger wants his players to earn his trust, and in recent reports he has spoken about outcast midfielder Jack Wilshere. Wenger claims that he wants Wilshere to challenge the club to earn a new deal for him to remain at the club. Wilshere has been rumored to leave the Gunners this term to join Serie A side AC Milan. And with just one year remaining under his contract at the Emirates, Wenger has claimed that the English midfielder must show the world what he is made of.
In a recent interview, when asked about Wilshere’s future, Wenger was quoted saying, “If he gets back to his best and wants to stay, we have to sit down, I think, later in the season. I don’t rule that out.”
The Frenchman then went on to describe his affection for the young midfielder. He further added that he loves the midfield star, whom he started at the age of 17, though today in the footballing world, only your consistent presence matters.
He added, “What is at stake for Jack is not his quality, his talent or his determination, it is whether he is a consistent presence at the top.”
“I hope he can manage to do that and after nobody questions his quality.”
As for the possibility of a further loan move for Wilshere, Wenger did suggest he may yet leave the Emirates to show his worth elsewhere.
“I am open, you know, with Jack. We have honest conversations and I’m open to what is the best for him.”
“He is at the stage of his career where he needs to play and I can guarantee him today that, and I think I am quite open on that.”
The 25 year old superstar had spent last season on loan at Bournemouth, but his constant injury problems came back to haunt him, which meant that things were always going downhill for him.
Further, Wilshere has not looked much like as the promising youngster he was once deemed to be because of those injuries.
He hasn’t looked as sharp or determined when he initially started his career at Arsenal.
Arsenal lost 4-0 to Liverpool on Sunday in a Premier League clash, after the loss in their last outing at Stoke 1-0, in which ex Real Madrid man Jese Rodriguez scored the winner.
A couple of losses in the first three games of the league season is never a good start for any team, as they have just three points from the same number of matches.
