Albert Sambi Lokonga has said that his time at Arsenal is coming to an end after talks over his future with the Premier League side. Speaking with VOOsport via Fabrizio Romano, the 24-year-old verified that talks with Arsenal management had ended with all sides agreeing that a summer move would be best for his development.
In expressing his feelings, Lokonga said, “My time at Arsenal is gradually coming to an end. After our conversation, the club suggested that leaving would be my best option.” Having joined the North London club in 2021, Lokonga has made 39 Gunners appearances, mostly in the 2021–22 campaign. This season he spent time on loan at Luton Town and Crystal Palace, but it seems like his next transfer will be permanent.
Injuries hampered Lokonga’s development this season even though he showed potential at Luton. Across his 17 Premier League games with the Hatters, he scored one goal and contributed three assists. But ever since Lokonga joined Arsenal in 2021, things have drastically altered, and the Gunners are now again among the best teams in England.
£50,000-a-week Arsenal Player Admits That He Is Leaving Arsenal
Given the depth of midfield quality at the Emirates, Lokonga clearly doesn’t fit into Mikel Arteta’s plans and will probably get few chances there. Given his youth and potential, the 24-year-old seems to be best off with a permanent move. Although Lokonga’s 2024–25 season destination is still unknown, his Luton performances this season have shown his potential as a rising star from Arsenal’s ranks.
Given the paucity of possibilities and the changing midfield dynamics of Arsenal, Lokonga’s exit looks certain. A bright talent moving on is upsetting, but both sides made a sensible choice. The loan periods Lokonga had shown his skills, but injuries prevented him from going any further. He can establish himself somewhere new and reach his full potential with a permanent relocation. Arsenal may then reinvest in areas with higher need and simplify their team. All things considered, it’s a wise choice that may eventually help Lokonga and Arsenal alike.

Newcastle United’s pursuit for a new goalkeeper has been no secret. They’re on the hunt for someone to give Nick Pope a run for his money and offer good backup when required. Martin Dubravka took in while Pope was out with injury in 2024, but his performance hasn’t been great throughout the season.
So, the quest continues on for the Magpies as they prepare up for the next season. Recent speculations claimed Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale would be coming their way, but it appears those rumors missed the mark. The Daily Mail says that Newcastle balked at his exorbitant £30 million price tag. Despite the huge funds of the Saudi Public Investment Fund, Financial Fair Play laws restrict them from going on a spending frenzy.
With Ramsdale out of reach, Newcastle is moving gears. According to the Daily Mail, they’re pursuing Burnley’s 21-year-old goalkeeper, James Trafford. With Burnley relegated and their coach Vincent Kompany going for Bayern Munich, it may be the ideal moment for Trafford to explore new horizons.
