The Huge Problem That Mikel Arteta Needs To Solve At Arsenal Next Season

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal had a fantastic season, finishing second in the Premier League with 89 points, their highest ever. But a closer look at their goalscoring stats reveals a concern for the upcoming 2024/25 campaign.

Arsenal scored a total of 91 goals, which sounds impressive. However, the number of goals from open play dropped compared to the previous season. In the 2022/23 season, they scored 70 goals from open play. This season, they only managed 59. This dip raises questions about Arsenal’s ability to consistently break down defenses and create clear scoring chances in open play. They did well with penalties (10) and set-pieces (22), but the reliance on these could be a weakness that stronger opponents might exploit.

The Huge Problem That Mikel Arteta Needs To Solve At Arsenal Next Season

Arteta and his team must address this issue if they aim to win the Premier League title next season. Improving their efficiency in open play will be crucial to outperforming their rivals. The summer transfer window and tactical adjustments provide a chance for Arsenal to improve this aspect of their game and boost their overall attacking strength.

Arsenal’s corner goals increased from 13 to 16, and they scored three goals from direct free kicks compared to two the previous season. Penalties saw a significant rise, from three to ten, and they added three goals from throw-ins. Despite these contributions, the 59 goals from open play still stand out as an area needing improvement.

Arteta’s tactical approach will need refining to enhance Arsenal’s creativity and effectiveness in open play. The transfer window offers a chance to bring in players who can make a difference in this regard. New signings with the ability to break down defenses and create opportunities will be key.

While Arsenal’s season was successful, the dip in open play goals highlights an area for improvement. Addressing this will be essential for their title ambitions. Arteta and his team must focus on boosting their open play efficiency to ensure they can consistently compete at the highest level. The summer transfer window and tactical tweaks will be crucial in this effort, aiming to enhance Arsenal’s attacking threat and overall performance for the next season.

Arsenal has always been especially appreciated by Anthony Martial. His passion of the Gunners stems from his respect for Thierry Henry, one of the most legendary players in the team. Martial has finished his nine-year career at Manchester United and is looking for a new team. While he hasn’t been connected to Arsenal, his remarks from 2018 indicated a strong connection to the team, mostly because of the French greats who formerly played on the North London surface.

Martial has been an English football fan throughout life. He supported Manchester United in part because Patrice Evra was from the same place as Martial. But Thierry Henry at Arsenal won his heart. Martial was even more enamored with Henry since he shared his origins in Les Ulis. French football greats like Henry and Zinedine Zidane, sometimes referred to as Zizou, jumped out to Martial. His list of players he most admired included attackers and playmakers, Nicolas Anelka included. Martial thought Anelka was a very outstanding player and valued his pace and talent.
