This summer, Arsenal may break things up with Oleksandr Zinchenko. The season has not been easy for the Ukrainian left-back, and it is unclear where he stands in the squad right now. Zinchenko is apparently unhappy with his position, and Arsenal is open to hearing offers for him. The team wants to make back more than the £30 million they invested two years ago.
Zinchenko has had a roller coaster of a season at Arsenal. He stands out with his own playing style. His frequent excursions into midfield, unlike those of typical left-backs, give Arsenal more control throughout games. His flexibility hasn’t, however, guaranteed him a spot in the starting lineup.
Manager of Arsenal, Mikel Arteta, recruited Jurrien Timber at first and used him as a left-back until Timber suffered a major knee injury. The future of Zinchenko was called into doubt by this choice. Timber was out, thus Zinchenko started the season as the first-choice left-back. But injuries derailed his campaign, allowing Takehiro Tomiyasu and Jakub Kiwior to contend for the job.
Arsenal Take A Decision On The £30m Star
Arteta clearly favored Tomiyasu at left-back as the season drew to an end. This inclination supposedly made Zinchenko miserable in his circumstances. Looking to generate a return on their original investment, Arsenal, in turn, is open to bids for the Ukrainian.
If Arteta cannot guarantee Zinchenko a big part in the squad the following season, he may think about leaving. Zinchenko’s future is more in jeopardy as the Gunners are actively considering individuals who can play as left- or center-back. Even if he still plays in certain games, Arsenal may not turn to him as their left-back of choice in the next campaign.
Zinchenko might be of interest to a number of teams. A possible destination has surfaced: Bayern Munich. Perhaps the German team see him as a summertime substitute for Alphonso Davies. Moving to Bayern would enable Zinchenko to go on playing at the top level.
In the past, Newcastle United has expressed interest as well. Zinchenko may not want to go to a team that is seen to be a step behind Arsenal, however. With a contract that expires in 2026, Zinchenko is under no imminent pressure to depart. His need for a big part and consistent playing time, however, may force a transfer.
Zinchenko’s future at Arsenal is thus unclear. Seemingly open to proposals, the club wants to make a healthy return on their investment. Zinchenko has special talents, which make him important, but his spot on the squad isn’t certain. Bayern Munich is a strong competitor for his signing if Arsenal is unable to guarantee him a significant role.
