Leading English football team Liverpool made an offer to sign Michele Di Gregorio, but the Italian goalie turned it down. TuttoSport claims Liverpool wants to improve their goalkeeping staff for the next campaign. Di Gregorio was their target, but he’s opted against relocating to Anfield.
Di Gregorio began his professional career via the Inter Milan youth system. Rising through the ranks, he joined their first squad in the summer of 2018. He was unable to hold onto a regular place in Inter’s main squad despite many loan stints. He went on a two-year loan to Monza in the summer of 2020. Summer 2022 saw this shift become permanent.
€20m Goalkeeper Turns Down Offer From Liverpool
By his performances, 26-year-old Di Gregorio has established a solid reputation. In 33 Serie A games the previous season, he had 14 clean sheets. Several European teams are interested in his steady performances. Particularly Liverpool expressed great interest in him, intending to lure him to England.
Caoimhin Kelleher, Liverpool’s back-up goalkeeper at the moment, is predicted to go during the next transfer window. Many felt Di Gregorio would be a great match for the team, which has been aggressively looking for a successor. The Italian stopper, however, has no intentions of joining Liverpool.
Liverpool made Di Gregorio an enticing offer around 20 days ago. He declined the very attractive offer. He seems more interested in maybe joining Juventus, one of the biggest football teams in Italy. Currently, Juventus and Monza are talking about a potential move.
Juventus, also referred to as the Old Lady, intends to talk about contract specifics with Di Gregorio’s agency shortly. Wojciech Szczęsny, the goalie they now have, is 34 years old, and his contract ends in the summer of 2025. Di Gregorio is seen by Juventus as a worthy Szczęsny replacement as the team is planning for the future.
To Di Gregorio, this is a sensible step. Staying in Italy enables him to carry on his career in a league he is acquainted with and stay in comfortable surroundings. Juventus would provide him the opportunity to play for one of the biggest teams in the nation. It also outlines a straightforward route to become their first choice goalie.
Now Liverpool will have to hunt elsewhere for a new goalie. They will go on looking notwithstanding Di Gregorio’s choice to remain in Italy. They want to recruit one of the other goalkeepers on their short list very soon.
For the record, Michele Di Gregorio declined Liverpool’s offer. He wants to remain in Italy and would want to join Juventus. Liverpool, meanwhile, will not stop searching for a new goalie as they get ready for the next campaign. This choice emphasises Liverpool’s desire to bolster their team as well as Di Gregorio’s career goals.
