Story Till Date-
After knowing that he requires more quality in his side, Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is looking to sign a few more players before the transfer window shuts. The latest bid that Chelsea are preparing is for Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez, who seems to be on the verge of joining the English champions.
Having let go of some key players like club legend John Terry and midfielder Nemanja Matic, Chelsea are now looking to replace them and bring in reinforcements to defend their title. But Conte is looking for some last ditch transfers which would see him able to add a bit more quality, in that is Mahrez.
The Algerian international led Leicester City to an incredible feat two seasons ago as they lifted the Premier League crown at the end of May. With pace, trickery and skill Mahrez is one of the most complete wingers in the Premier League and an established one too.
And reports claim that he could join former team-mate N’golo Kante at Stamford Bridge. Mahrez was allowed to leave international training with Algeria to head back to London to finalize his transfer business.
Mahrez won the PFA Player of the year in 2016 and has stated publicly that he wants a move away from the King Power stadium, with Leicester manager Craig Shakespeare adamant to keep him. The Foxes have already rejected a deal from league rivals Arsenal, but it seems that Chelsea are preparing a more lucrative bid to lure Mahrez to London.
The 26 year old could join Chelsea for a fee of around £45 million and Leicester may finally accept defeat after managing to hold onto their superstar for three Match days.
However, the time is done now and the Blues will not lose out on star winger Eden Hazard, who was linked for quite some time with a move to Real Madrid.
The transfer window ends in a few hours and a deal for Mahrez needs to be agreed upon as soon as possible.
Will It Happen Any Time Soon?
Well, now that the transfer window is shut, there is a high possibility that the player will have to spend the rest of the season at the KP Stadium and play for the Foxes, or wait until January and get a deal sorted out. Recently, he was released from the Algerian squad in order to get a transfer done, though he failed to make the most of it.
A lot of top clubs are still in the hunt to add him to their squad and things could get interesting in the seasons to come, as there is not much doubt that he will want to move on with his career and join a comparatively bigger club.
An interesting tale awaits us as the season goes on with some “crazy deals” going down in the recently concluded transfer window.
Whether Chelsea’s interest remains or not will be something to keep close tabs on and you can like our page on FB for more updates on the Mahrez story.
