Arsenal Identify A New Role For Kai Havertz

Arsenal News: Germany advanced to the quarterfinals of Euro 2024 thanks in large part to a remarkable performance by Kai Havertz, who scored the game-winning goal in their match against Denmark. After neatly shooting a penalty past Kasper Schmeichel, the Arsenal star added to his tournament total as he celebrated his 50th appearance for Germany. The hosts cruised to a 2-0 victory at Signal Iduna Park thanks to an additional goal from Jamal Musiala. Not only did Havertz score the game-winning goal, but his performance also highlighted his improving penalty-taking ability, which was lacking during his tenure at Arsenal.

After joining Arsenal from Chelsea for £65 million, Havertz has had a remarkable run. In 51 games played for the Gunners last season, he managed to score fourteen goals. Against Bournemouth in September, he scored Arsenal’s first goal—also a penalty—which is very interesting. Havertz, however, has had less chances to show his stuff from the penalty spot since Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka have been Arsenal’s primary takers.

But his two penalty goals at Euro 2024 may alter that storyline. Having attempted twenty penalties throughout his senior year and missed only one, Havertz has shown his dependability from the penalty spot. Given his stellar record, Arsenal may feel compelled to give him more penalty duty next season.

Last year, Arsenal’s main penalty taker, Bukayo Saka, scored all six of his attempts. Even Odegaard had a spotless record, with a score of 2 for 2. Some other players chipped in as well; Jorginho scored against RC Lens and Fabio Vieira scored against Sheffield United. Havertz may or may not get further playing time when the next season begins on August 17.

The way Havertz played at Euro 2024 showed that he might be a world-class No. 9. Mikel Arteta started Havertz in the middle of the field with Odegaard and Declan Rice, but he was as effective when played up front. He is an asset to Arsenal due to his flexibility and goal-scoring prowess. One of the most impressive performers at Euro 2024 has been Havertz. He leads all players in shots, attempts on goal, and touches within the penalty area. His high xG (expected goals) further attest to his offensive prowess.

More details:

Edu and Arteta may reevaluate their intentions for Arsenal’s team in light of these performances. Despite rumors that the team is looking to add a new striker, Havertz’s performance indicates that this may not be their first priority. Considering the availability of Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah, Havertz’s leadership skills might be crucial. As a result, Arsenal may want to strengthen their forward corps with the addition of a wide attacker to join Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Martinelli, and Bukayo Saka. Arsenal’s transfer plan may be impacted by Havertz’s performances, which convey a strong statement about his ability.

Whether Havertz can solidify his status as Arsenal’s No. 9 as the new season draws near will be intriguing to see. Arteta has definitely been given food for thought by his performances at Euro 2024. Havertz has the potential to be an integral part of Arsenal’s 2024–25 season lineup if he maintains his current level of performance.
