The Truth About Ozil’s Future?
The Arsenal board seems confident over a new contract extension deal for Mesut Ozil over the next few weeks. The Gunners are in no pressure regarding the playmakers’ contract as they believe he will sign an extension at the club. Mesut Ozil has just under a year left on his current Arsenal contract which would see him leave the club as a free agent next summer. Arsene Wenger’s side has already lost midfielder Alex Oxlade Chamberlain to league rivals Liverpool after the winger claimed he wanted to take his career forward.
However, Wenger certainly doesn’t want his talented German to leave the club. And a new lucrative deal is set to be prepared over the coming few weeks.
Ozil has not been able to replicate the similar consistency he showed in his Real Madrid days when he played alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Angel Di Maria. But since his move from the Santiago Bernabeu to the Emirates in 2013, there have been flashes of brilliance in intervals but the German attacker has not been able to perform highly on a consistent basis.
Fortunately, Ozil is not linked to many other clubs like the other star attacker in the club. Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez has been heavily linked away with a move away from Arsenal, and he has the possibility of leaving in the next transfer window.
Certainly, Wenger will be keen to keep Ozil at the club, who has helped the Gunners with the FA Cup and Community Shield on a couple of occasions. But still, Ozil’s time at the North-London club has been criticized immensely over the past few seasons regarding his work-rate and laziness on the pitch.
In a long rant on Facebook earlier last week, Ozil posted a long post underlining the fans and supporters to back the team instead of criticizing. The 28-year-old midfielder was on song with his national side during the World Cup Qualifiers during the international break. Ozil scored a sublime goal and was dictating the play very efficiently for Germany.
The fans at Arsenal are getting more anxious by each passing day in hope that their key player would sign a contract extension at the club. However, according to reports, there haven’t been any contract approaches made towards Ozil, but still, Arsenal is confident of their valued match-winner to sign a new deal in the coming weeks.
Winner Takes All?
The thing is simple. As long as the Londoners keep winning games and trophies, their star players will remain at the Emirates. Wenger knows that his team have not been really able to challenge for major trophies in the past decade or so and have just won the FA Cup a few times, which is also an achievement in itself, as they have broken records, yet there is a need to win the Premier League title and other silverware too.
Not just Ozil, Alexis Sanchez is the other star who might be ready to leave north London at the end of the current campaign and the only thing that might be able to keep him at the club, will be a good solid performance this term.
