The Portuguese publication O Jogo claims Arsenal is looking at Joao Neves of SL Benfica for a possible summer acquisition. A new midfielder during this transfer window of top importance for the Gunners. Still, they appear more concerned in fortifying their defense initially. Following Riccardo Calafiori’s outstanding achievements for his club and national team, Mikel Arteta’s squad is about to sign Bologna’s player. Arsenal is still talking with Bologna, who are want about £42 million for the Italian defender; they have agreed on personal terms with Calafiori.

Arsenal Can Sign This £85m Star In The Coming Days

Once Arsenal closes the Calafiori contract, they could focus on a new midfielder. Recent rumors have connected them to Bruno Guimaraes, Martin Zubimendi, and Amadou Onana among other names. Still, Neves has now been a major focus. O Jogo says Arsenal has shown interest in Neves and could formally offer in the next weeks. Neves, 19, signed a deal with £85 million in release value. Any team wanting to sign him would therefore have to satisfy this heavy clause to guarantee his transfer. If Arsenal wants Neves to be brought to North London, they will have to make large investments.

There is intense rivalry for Neves. Furthermore apparently piquing interest in the young player are Manchester United and Liverpool. Arsenal will therefore be under great competition from these opponents in their hunt of Neves. With Benfica, Neves showed promise and ability last season. He is deft at keeping possession, passing precisely, and managing intense pressure. He appeals more because of his defensive contribution.

Should Arsenal get Neves’ signature, their midfield would get a major improvement. The next weeks will show if they can outshine the rivals and include Neves as a main component of their team.Arsenal’s interest in Joao Neves is intriguing. He is a good acquisition because of his ability and promise. But the hefty release clause and fierce rivalry from Liverpool and Manchester United might make this difficult. Should Arsenal land him, Neves would greatly improve their midfield and future chances.

Aiming to guarantee a return to European football at St James’ Park under Eddie Howe, Newcastle United is negotiating one of its most crucial transfer windows ever. Having almost missed out on a European berth last season mostly owing to injury, the Magpies are eager to improve their lineup. This summer, they signed four players already, but not without some difficulties.

Newcastle’s hunt for former Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise turned out to be fruitless. Olise decided instead to join Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga. Furthermore, Newcastle had showed interest in Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori, who chose Arsenal. Newcastle is now searching for ways to strengthen their defense as this choice creates gaps.

The club had intended to sign Calafiori, but the Italian defender turned his attention right away toward Emirates Stadium. Newcastle badly needs to cover the voids in their backline as central defenders Jamaal Lascelles and Sven Botman are out with ACL injuries. Howe is currently searching for further reinforcements while Lloyd Kelly has already joined the team on a free transfer from Bournemouth.
