Arsenal Are Now Struggling To Sign The €50m Rated Defender

The chase of Riccardo Calafiori by Arsenal presents difficulties. About the ultimate transfer price, Arsenal and Bologna are in negotiations. For its defense, Bologna want €50 million; Arsenal has not yet decided to pay that sum. Initially hopeful about the move, reports from Italy indicated it might end shortly. Calafiori is ready to go to the Emirates, and Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s manager, is willing to get the left-footed defender with great versatility.

Negotiations have stalled even if at first one felt confident about closing the agreement before the end of the week. Arsenal delays the deal as they feel Bologna’s €50 million value is excessive. Though the precise nature of this problem is still unknown, there is optimism both parties will find quick resolution.

Calafiori is supposed to be part of Arteta’s pre-season team during their US trip. The next season depends on fast incorporating the €50 million-rated player into the club. The delay over the transfer fee, meanwhile, suggests the process could take more time than anticipated. Transfer value assessments have not been perfect in Bologna past. For example, a sell-on clause meant they had to pay Bayern Munich half of any earnings from selling Joshua Zirkzee. Likewise with Calafiori, Bologna has to pay 50% of any earnings to FC Basel from whom they acquired the defender for over €4.5 million. This means Basel gets half and out of the €50 million Bologna searches, they will only keep little more than €45 million.

This financial complexity might be affecting Bologna’s official position on the €50 million charge. While they have to share their earnings with Basel, they aim to maximize their gains. Arsenal, on the other hand, finds the present value exorbitant and is attempting to negotiate a better deal.

The continuous debates mirror usual transfer market talks, in which both sides seek common ground. Arsenal is still optimistic about signing Calafiori, but closing the agreement would depend on patience and further negotiations. The following several days will be very important because both parties aim for a mutually agreeable compromise.

Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad would be much welcomed by Arsenal. The Gunners have taken notice of the 28-year-old midfielder as they try to boost their team during the summer transfer period. Arsenal has set a €25 million transfer cap and began talks with Merino’s officials. From Newcastle United in 2018, Merino has been a star performer in La Liga. He has had really outstanding performances on the club and international levels. He was instrumental in Spain’s effective campaign for UEFA Euro 2024. Merino has appeared over 250 times for Real Sociedad over years, scoring 27 goals and dishing out 30 assists.

Several elite European teams have shown interest in his steady performance; Arsenal is among the most serious competitors. Though they have not made any acquisitions this summer, the Gunners are keen to have a dependable midfielder in their lineup. The unclear future of Thomas Partey, who has battled injuries despite his on-field performances, drives this need.
