22-year-old Player Has Rejected Chelsea For Arsenal

Both Arsenal and Chelsea express interest in Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori, who may leave Serie A this summer. The 22-year-old prefers Arsenal as his destination. Calafiori has informed Chelsea he wants to join Arsenal, according to Gianluca Di Marzio of Sky Sports. For Arsenal, who needs a robust center defense, this is fantastic news. Di Marzio thinks Calafiori matches Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta’s approach and suits the Premier League. Bologna asks a hefty price: €50 million plus incentives and a percentage. Nevertheless, Calafiori wants to join Arsenal, so they look ready to finalize the trade.

Arsenal has to grow even better if it is to win big trophies; last season, it showed great defensive performance. Calafiori would be a great long-term acquisition and would cooperate well with William Saliba on defense. Under appropriate coaching, he may develop into a world-class defense. Known for nurturing fresh talent, Arteta appears perfect to mentor him. Among the best teams in the Premier League, Arsenal has always sought for big prizes. Many players find playing for them appealing, hence Calafiori probably views this as an opportunity to assist them win trophies.

Chelsea also needs a top center defender concurrently, particularly in light of Thiago Silva’s leaving. When Silva departed his contract expired this summer, Chelsea had to choose a qualified successor. Calafiori has now been a potential target for them. Arsenal’s strong defensive record from previous season reveals their need of skilled replacements. Calafiori’s possible signing would enhance their defense and provide their next campaigns depth. Arsenal’s drive to acquire him underscores their desire to retain their competitive edge in the Premier League and guarantee elite talents.

Dealing with Silva’s departure, Chelsea also has to move fast to support their defense. Still to be seen is if they can locate another appropriate replacement or secure Calafiori. The fact that both teams are interested in Calafiori emphasizes his increasing profile and the need of obtaining elite defensive capability in the very competitive football scene of today.

Arsenal might enter the Joao Felix battle. By the end of July, the Portuguese striker hopes to be out of Atletico Madrid Arsenal, Aston Villa, Barcelona have shown interest. Felix, 24, spent the season on loan at Barcelona and earlier joined Chelsea from Atletico Madrid.  Arsenal’s curiosity in Felix is not novel. They sought him eighteen months ago when he decided on Chelsea instead. Felix scored 16 goals and provided 16 assists in all around play for Barcelona. Barcelona’s choice to release him, however, points to either budgetary restrictions or apathetic attitude.

Benfica has also shown interest and provided half of Felix’s rights for €20 million. Atletico Madrid is deliberating about this suggestion. But the talk in the Premier League points to Aston Villa and now Arsenal as strong candidates for Felix. From a sports standpoint, Felix would suit really well with Arsenal. Arsenal’s fierce rivalry, however, casts questions about his prospects of finding a consistent place on Mikel Arteta’s squad.

Felix’s future at Atletico Madrid appears hopeless. The club will aggressively hunt suitors to unload him; it has no intentions to reintegrate him. Felix’s contract with Atletico until 2029 gives the team negotiating strength. Seeking improved performance, they may loan him once again. But his visits to Chelsea and Barcelona have reduced his market worth, therefore complicating Atletico’s attempts to negotiate a good deal.
