Jose Mourinho Plays Yet Another Master Stroke, As Manchester United Shows Off More Title Ambition

Jose Mourinho

Manchester United had thrashed Everton 4-0 in their fifth match of the Premier League season at Old Trafford. The game was denoted by Rooney’s return to Old Trafford as an opponent player and also Romelu Lukaku played against his former club. Both the players were keen to give their best but at the end of the day Romelu Lukaku sealed it for Manchester United.
Paul Pogba was out of the United squad due to the injury and Marouane Fellaini had taken his place in the starting line up for United.
Mata and Mkhitaryan were in the attacking midfield position to supply the ball towards Rashford and Lukaku who were leading from the front.
Ashley Young started in left back position and Valencia in the right back position. Jones and Bailly were covering the heart of the defense as expected.
On the other hand, Rooney was playing as lone striker with Davies and Siggurdson in the attacking midfield position. Gueye and Schneiderlin were in the heart of midfield to block the attacks of United players.
Ronald Koeman preferred a five man defense including Martina, Keane, Williams, Jagielka and Baines for this match.
The match started with United taking the very early lead at the 3rd minute of the match when Valencia scored from the pass of Nemanja Matic, the summer signing of this season from Chelsea. United dominated the first half with enjoying most of the possession.
Rooney was frustrated with less ball supply to him by the other players and was marked beautifully by the Everton players.
He had gone deep to the midfield to supply balls to two attacking midfielders Siggurdson and Davies. But the try had not gone in their favour and the first half ended with United leading by one goal at Old Trafford.
In the second half Everton wished to make a comeback and started the half with a spirited display. Rooney almost scored a goal but De Gea’s legs prevented the Legend to score at Old Trafford as a opponent team player.
At the 60th minute of the match Rashford was taken off to give Lingard a chance for United. Everton also made a change. Ronald Koeman had brought Sandro in place of Davies to provide more attacking threats.
United’s attacking intent was present there through out. Mata’s brilliant free kick just outside the penalty had struck the post.Calvert-Lewin also came in place of Gueye at 75th minute of the match.
Mourinho tried to block the attacks of Everton and brought a defensive midfielder Ander Herrera in place of an attacking midfielder Juan Mata. United doubled their lead when Mkhitaryan scored from the pass of Romelu Lukaku at 82nd minute of the match.
Mkhitaryan was then taken off to give Martial a chance to explore the defense of Everton at 87th minute of the match and at the very next minute Lukaku placed the ball perfectly in the goal which had come to him via Lingard’s head from a free-kick outside the box.
Martial earned a penalty in the stoppage time as Schneiderlin had tackled him inside the box and Martial had committed no mistake to put the ball inside the net from the penalty box. United emerged victorious with an emphatic 4-0 margin at the end.
With this win Manchester United are now at the top of the table along with Manchester City with 13 points in 5 matches so far. Everton are at the bottom of the league table at 18th position now with just 4 points. Both the teams will play in the Carabao Cup in the mid-week.
