Arsenal Can Face A Big Issue With The Emirates Stadium

Arsenal: Arsenal’s goals to raise the capacity of Emirates Stadium present major difficulties, especially as the stadium was not built to allow more layers. Expert in finance Stefan Borson discussed possible challenges Arsenal could run across with Football Insider.

Borson clarified that given the Emirates’ initial design constraints, adding even another layer may not be possible. This limitation would force the club to investigate other, maybe expensive and complicated ways for growth. One of the main issues with such a project is also its financial character. Expanding the stadium might have significant expenses, and the period needed to recover the investment could be drawn-out. This financial pressure might also make it more difficult for the club to go forward with major renovations.

Arsenal Can Face A Big Issue With The Emirates Stadium

Josh Kroenke, co-chair of Arsenal, spoke on ESPN that the team is considering prospective renovations and Emirates expansion. After leaving Highbury in 2006, the club sought to draw bigger audiences and land more lucrative sponsorship agreements with the 60,704-seat £390 million-built stadium, the Emirates. The relocation was meant to improve their business opportunities and fit a rising fan base.

Notwithstanding these aspirations, Borson’s study indicates that Arsenal’s aims might be hampered by financial concerns and pragmatic constraints. The difficulty is not only in the physical growth but also in controlling the financial consequences and guaranteeing a strong return on investment.

He told Football Insider: “If you can add a large number of seats, you can generate quite a lot of top-line revenue. The issue is the same one Man United have got. It’s the cost of that investment and how quickly that investment can be paid back. I think one of the big issues that Arsenal have got is that the stadium is not designed for adaptation and another tier, which is the only way you are going to make a dramatic increase in the number of seats. We have seen that Man City are doing it at the moment, whereby they are adding another tier at the end that doesn’t have three tiers.  But not all stadiums are suitable for that kind of adaptation.”

Even if Arsenal wants to modernize the Emirates Stadium, financial reality and practicality provide major obstacles. To get over these challenges, the club could have to weigh other growth plans or phased methods.

As Conor Gallagher‘s position at Chelsea became more challenging, Kieran Trippier may have encouraged him to join Atletico Madrid, therefore guiding his next action. Former Atletico player Trippier has recommended Gallagher to look for the Spanish side to guarantee his future, according to Football Insider.

From the beginning of the summer transfer window, Gallagher’s future at Chelsea has been hazy. Gallagher enters his last year of contract and must navigate a pivotal time. Chelsea is unlikely to grant him a new long-term contract as they are afraid of losing a highly visible, native talent for free. Gallagher’s chances at Stamford Bridge have darkened even after turning down two offers, including a two-year deal with an option for an extra season.
