Arsenal have a lot to do before the transfer window closes. Many fans feel the Gunners need a new striker and a new right winger. However, right now, no moves seem close for either position. Fabrizio Romano, speaking on The Debrief, says Arsenal aren’t currently looking at new attacking players. Instead, their focus is fully on signing Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad. According to Romano, Arsenal see Merino as an incredible midfielder.
Fabrizio Romano Reveals The Player That Arsenal Are Desperate To Sign
Romano shared what he knows about Arsenal’s plans. He said: “I don’t think it’s all about selling Nketiah. It’s about finding the right opportunity for a new striker. Right now, Arsenal are focused on Mikel Merino. They’re trying to finalize the agreement for the Spanish midfielder to join from Real Sociedad.”
Romano added, “They have an agreement with Merino and are working on the deal structure with Real Sociedad.” There’s not much happening in terms of attacking links at Arsenal. This is how Arsenal want to operate this summer. Romano also mentioned that Arsenal are working on one deal at a time, making a similar point about the Mikel Merino deal while they were working on the Riccardo Calafiori move.
“Arsenal want to add one midfielder this summer, and Mikel Merino remains a strong option,” Romano said. “They’ve had contacts on the player’s side. They still haven’t presented an offer to Real Sociedad. Why? Because Arsenal like to work deal by deal. So, they are working on closing Calafiori, and then they will start concrete negotiations for a midfielder.”
If Arsenal can secure Merino, they will then shift their attention to another position. With the Premier League season starting in just over a week, Arsenal need to act fast to get these deals done. Arsenal’s methodical approach in the transfer market might pay off, but they must hurry to strengthen their squad before the new season kicks off. The need for a new striker and right winger is evident, and the clock is ticking.

Belgian teams Standard Liege and Eupen have shown an interest in Arsenal’s youthful attacker Nathan Butler-Oyedeji. According to sources close to Football Insider, both teams are eager to land a permanent contract for the twenty-one year old before the August 31 transfer window closes. The Gunners apparently seem willing to let Butler-Oyedeji go. Mikel Arteta has positioned him low in the pecking order and has not included him particularly in his plans. Butler-Oyedeji made 13 League One appearances but failed to reach the back of the goal during his first half of last season stay with Cheltenham Town.
When the teenage attacker went back to Arsenal’s Under-21s in January, he clearly improved. In 14 games he showed promise by scoring six goals and dishing two assists. Still, the club seems ready to split ways with him, perhaps to simplify the team and create space for fresh acquisitions. Arteta is looking for a new number nine in current transfer window. Arsenal may sell several marginal players, like Butler-Oyedeji, to help finance this bold action. Having been observing Nigeria internationally for some time, the Gunners could advocate a notable acquisition to increase their offensive possibilities.
For Butler-Oyedeji, moving to Belgium might provide a new start and an opportunity for further development. Standard Liege and Eupen provide a competitive scene where he might establish his value and get worthwhile experience. Both teams want to improve their teams, hence Butler-Oyedeji’s adaptability might be rather beneficial.
