Arsenal Target Set To Be Stolen By Liverpool For €60 Million

Liverpool apparently is poised to activate the €60 million release clause for Real Sociedad’s midfielder Martin Zubimendi. The Reds appear keen to get him to Anfield, an action that would upend the Premier League. After making a name for himself in Real Sociedad’s first squad, Zubimendi has drawn interest from other major teams such Arsenal and Barcelona. Still, none of these teams was able to entice him away from his present squad during the summer transfer season.

Arsenal Target Set To Be Stolen By Liverpool For €60 Million

Currently 25, Zubimendi has played over 200 Real Sociedad games, with eight goals and seven assists. Top teams all across Europe have taken notice of him as his constant performance makes him one of La Liga’s best midfield players. Dealing with uncertainty over Thomas Partey’s future, Arsenal considered Zubimendi as a possible successor but the player showed no desire to go to North London.

Barcelona also named Zubimendi as a target, particularly after Sergio Busquets’s difficulty finding replacement. Though the Catalan team saw him as a major addition to their midfield, the €60 million price tag proved too costly for them. Barcelona’s inability to reach the asking price let other bidders in the door; Liverpool is currently leading the race.

After separating with Thiago Alcantara, Liverpool’s want for a midfielder became critical. For what they need—a powerful, dependable presence in the heart of the park— Zubimendi fits. According to reports, the Spanish overseas is receptive to the relocation, which might be the element driving this transaction over the edge.

Should Liverpool get Zubimendi, it would indicate a notable triumph against Arsenal and Barcelona. His acquisition would improve Liverpool’s midfield by giving them the depth and skill required to challenge at the best level. Missing Zubimendi may be a regrettable experience for Arsenal and Barcelona, particularly if he thrives in the Premier League.

Despite some claimed setbacks, Arsenal is moving ahead in its hunt of Mikel Merino. With the deal developing further than first anticipated, the Gunners look resolved to bring the Spanish midfielder to the Emirates. Arsenal’s faith in obtaining Merino is still strong despite some bumps. Like their past moves, the Gunners are acting deliberately. Arsenal’s top target for the left-eight post is Merino, a final year contract holder of Real Sociedad. Merino would close a major void in Mikel Arteta’s midfield with Granit Xhaka gone.

Arsenal is discreetly pursuing discussions with Real Sociedad, although other sources suggest a stand-still in the negotiations. The main focus of the conversations is the cost and payment system; €30 million is the expected price. Arsenal seems to prefer a contract with more performance-based metrics and less set money. Though other teams, like Barcelona, are showing interest, Merino looks set to choose Arsenal. He supposedly turned down a strategy from Atletico Madrid, who have since gone on to other targets. Barcelona, too, has been connected with Merino, although their financial predicament hinders the possible move. After giving Dani Olmo first priority, it seems doubtful they could afford both Merino and Nico Williams this summer.
