Arsenal don't want to pay €35 million for the Euro 2024 winner

Arsenal are hesitant to meet Real Sociedad’s €35 million valuation of Mikel Merino, causing concerns the transfer might stretch into the final days of the window. El Diario Vasco reports that the Gunners are wary of the hefty price tag for the midfielder. Merino, eager to join the north Londoners, has made it clear he doesn’t want to extend his stay at Sociedad. His eagerness could pressure the north Londoners to negotiate a deal before the transfer window closes.

Arsenal’s reluctance stems from the high fee set by Sociedad. The Gunners are cautious, knowing that committing to such an amount might not align with their budgetary plans. With the transfer market’s deadline approaching, the north Londoners could find themselves in a tricky position if they delay further. Merino’s desire to move to Arsenal is strong, but if the Gunners don’t act swiftly, the transfer saga might drag on, potentially complicating their plans for the season.

Sociedad is firm on their asking price, which could lead to a standoff if Arsenal doesn’t reconsider their position. The north Londoners might have to explore alternative options or negotiate a lower fee if they want to secure Merino’s services. The situation is tense, as any prolonged negotiation could jeopardize Arsenal’s chance to bolster their midfield before the window closes.

Given Merino’s interest in Arsenal and the north Londoners’ current stance, it’s crucial for Arsenal to decide quickly. They risk missing out on a player who could significantly enhance their squad. On the flip side, if Arsenal can’t come to an agreement with Sociedad, they may have to pivot to other targets or adapt their transfer strategy.

In my opinion, Arsenal should find a middle ground or walk away from the deal if the price remains too high. The transfer market is unpredictable, and sometimes it’s better to invest in players who align with both financial and tactical plans rather than overspending on one player.

Romelu Lukaku’s future at Chelsea looks increasingly uncertain as he eyes a permanent move away from Stamford Bridge. After spending last season on loan at AS Roma, where he played a significant role for the Italian side, the Belgian striker is now attracting interest from Napoli and Aston Villa. With Chelsea ready to offload him, Lukaku’s departure seems almost inevitable.

Lukaku had a successful stint at Roma, netting 21 goals in the Serie A, which has sparked interest from Napoli. The Neapolitans see Lukaku as a strong addition to their attacking lineup, but negotiations with Chelsea have hit a snag over the transfer fee. Chelsea values Lukaku at £35 million, but Napoli is only willing to offer £25 million. This £10 million gap in valuation has led to ongoing discussions between the two clubs as they attempt to reach a compromise.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa has also shown interest in Lukaku, looking to bolster their attacking options. The Midlands club, however, remains in the background, with Napoli leading the race for the striker. For Lukaku, a return to Italy might be the most appealing option, given his successful spell at Roma and his familiarity with Serie A. Chelsea, on the other hand, wants to recoup a significant portion of the £97.5 million they paid for Lukaku in 2021, which complicates matters.
