Liverpool Now Want To Sign This Defensive Star In The January Transfer Window

The Major Transfer Claim-

Jurgen Klopp may finally decide to bring in re-enforcements in defense in an attempt to resolve Liverpool’s rearguard problems. The latest rumor floating around Anfield is that AS Roma centre-back Stefan De Vrij is the main target in the January transfer window. It is no secret that Liverpool’s major concern is the defensive aspect of their football, but it has been a while since that problem has been addressed. Having brought in Mohamed Salah, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Dominic Solanke in the last summer transfer window Liverpool have strengthened their attack but the back-line has still had the same issues of conceding goals.

The Merseyside outfit has dropped points from winning situations many times already this season after shaky defensive errors have allowed oppositions to gain an advantage of the highly attack-minded club.

Although the wing-backs for Liverpool have been relatively good so far, over the course of the season the problem lies in the heart of the back four, in the center. Dejan Lovren’s big move from Southampton in 2014, gave the Reds a big boost but the Croatian has failed to provide solidarity for Liverpool after too many inconsistent performances. Joel Matip’s arrival from Schalke has also not been a reveling change as Klopp’s defense has leaked rather silly goals.

Certainly, points have cost Liverpool already this season and their German boss has been frustrated ever since. However, Stefan De Vrij has been on the radar for Liverpool in January and the Dutch defender could add solidity to the club’s defense.

The 25 year old’s contract expires at the end of the summer and Roma are keen on holding down the big centre-back but De Vrij is looking to move away from the Roma based outfit. De Vrij is currently on a £35,000 a week deal but Liverpool will be willing to offer him way more than his current earnings in Italy.

The Holland man is an experienced defender and has been capped 31 times for the national side. Liverpool hosted Manchester United in a 0-0 draw last weekend but conceded 4 goals to Tottenham Hotspur earlier on Sunday as Klopp’s side suffered a heavy defeat at Wembley.

Former Liverpool legend Phil Thompson had stated before the game that it would be an intense battle between the two sides.  “Liverpool turn up in the big games.”

“It is going to be an absolute battle but if you look at a lot of our players, they raise their game.”

“Dare I say it, but I think there’s a good chance of a Liverpool clean sheet.”

Defensive problems have cost Liverpool heavily and Klopp needs to sort out his issues as soon as possible in the next transfer window.

Does Liverpool Need To Sign In January?

The answer would be a big “YES”. The team has once again been one of the most inconsistent sides in the top flight of English football and will want to start getting positive results in the business end of the season, if they wish to win anything at all this term. Klopp will have to make a call and it is high time that he further strengthens his back-line, who were horrible against Spurs.
