How Arsene Wenger’s Bluff Totally Backfired As Manchester United Beat Arsenal 3-1

Jose Mourinho

The Bluff That Failed!!

It was reported that, Alexandre Lacazette is suffering from a groin injury which would lead to absence of this summer record signing of Arsenal this season. The striker had to be taken off in the first half against Huddersfield Town, the match which Arsenal had won with a 5-0 margin. He was replaced by Olivier Giroud in the second half.

Lacazette came into prominence as a member of the academy at Lyon, where he made his professional debut aged 19. He helped the club win Coupe de France and Trophée des Champions in 2012, and was named the Ligue 1 Player of the Year in 2014–15.During his time in France, Lacazette has showcased a vast reputation of a prolific goalscorer and poacher, recording multiple twenty-goal seasons, which earned him a move to Arsenal in a club-record £46.5m deal in 2017.

Ever since debuting for the national side, Lacazette has represented France across all youth levels. He was a key star in France’s win in the 2010 UEFA European Under-19 Championship, scoring the match-winning goal in the final against Spain. He then made his senior international debut in June 2013, scoring his first goal in a competitive match just over two years later in March 2015.

Well known for his dribbling, quickness and ability on the ball with both feet, as well the persistence to push forward and tackle when out of possession, the Frenchman has been compared to former Arsenal forward Ian Wright.

Lacazette previously played as a winger for Lyon, before becoming a striker. As well as goal-scoring, characteristics of his game are pace and dribbling. He also presses the opposition defensive line and wins the ball back constant too, using his tackling ability to the fullest.

The player has a potential of being one of the best strikers of the World in near future and his absence against United will be a huge loss for Arsenal. United will be feeling more hopeful of winning the match at Emirates with the absence of Alexandre Lacazette in this big match of the season. However, he did playe and the attempt to bluff, back-fired on Wenger.

Editor’s View- 3 Things We Realized From The Game!!

3. Arsenal’s Defence Is Pathetic-

Though there was a slight tactical supremacy at times showcased by the visitors on the night, Wenger should have not picked Mustafi, if he knew that the defender was carrying a knock. Also, the back line messed up things within the first 11 minutes of the game, conceding two silly goals, including the first one in the opening 3 minutes of the match. Also, they were struggling to deal with the counter-attacking football of the Red Devils, though they were good going forward.

The work of a defence is to first defend and then attack, not the other way round. Eventually, even when the game was quite open, the Gunners scored just once and conceded once too. Even with the Pogba sending off, things did not look too different and Arsenal eventually lost on the night.

2. Lukaku, Sanchez, Ozil Who?

The top players from both teams, who were expected to leave their mark on the game all disappeared when it mattered the most. Though Sanchez and Ozil were still trying to create chances and push for a goal, they failed to do so and their influence did not have a final product.

On the other hand, Lukaku was barely visible in the game, so it’s best to not expect from him in the big matches from now on. If he does deliver, then it will just be a bonus.

1. Psychological Disadvantage For The Gunners-

Once the north Londoners go a goal or two down, it seems that there is no coming back for them in the game. Though yesterday seemed to be different for a long period of time as they dominated possession, they eventually succumbed to the pressure once again and conceded a third, which meant that they could not get the favourable result that they were hoping for on the night.

They are more or less out of the title race now, due to this mental block that they have against the big teams and just can’t seem to perform when needed the most. Why Wenger has not worked on this yet and help his team improve is still a mystery to be solved.
