In a shocking recent revelation made by Football-Italia.net, it has now been suggested that Chelsea’s summer signing Davide Zappacosta is wanted by Serie A giants AS Roma in the new year. The right back who made a move to Stamford Bridge at the start of the current campaign has looked impressive for the Blues, due to which he has generated a lot of interest from the Italian capital. He has already made 9 appearances for the champions of England this term.
The Londoners signed the star for a fee of £22.5m, though he is now on top of the wish-list of the Romans, who are in desperate need of more defensive stars.
The Italian outfit are trying to find a replacement for defender Rick Karsdorp, whom they signed for a fee of £12.6m from Dutch side Feyenoord during the summer transfer window.
Despite that, the player picked up a serious knee injury when he made his debut in Italy and it seems now that the club has no other option than to bring in an alternative option.
Antonio Conte would surely not be entertaining this thought and will want to retain the former Torino man, who has really looked spectacular since his move to Stamford Bridge.
The former Italy and Juventus manager needs all the players that he can retain and add to his current squad, who have been struggling for form. They recently lost yet again to West Ham and will want to put that game behind them.
Conte will be looking to add more stars to his current squad instead, rather than losing any of his current stars, though Roma will try their best to push for a deal.
The west London outfit will have a set of targets for the new year and it will be really up to the management and the manager to push for more signings.
Chelsea’s weaknesses have been exposed on the pitch in recent times and hopefully the voids within the squad can be filled in time, so that they are able to make a title challenge.
With the way that things stand at the moment in the top flight of English football, Manchester City seem to be the complete favourites and it seems just impossible to beat them this term.
Their domestic rivals Manchester United tried their luck at Old Trafford at the weekend, though the result was just the same and they ended up losing at home.
Also, the Champions League will be a major competition, in which Conte’s team faces off against La Liga leaders Barcelona, who are in really good form at present and are one of the favourites to win the title.
The local cups will also be on the mind of the Italian manager, though the significance of those might not be equivalent to these other top competitions.
Losing Zappacosta does not seem to be an option for the club and the interest from Italy might just fade away, as the English outfit will try hard to keep hold of their defensive star.
