Arsenal are interested in PSG star

Arsenal, who are still searching for a reliable centre-forward, are keeping a close eye on the Parisian striker.

Gonçalo Ramos could be on the north London radar this summer. Arsenal, who are still searching for a reliable centre-forward, are keeping a close eye on the Parisian striker. As Mikel Arteta explores options to bolster the forward line, the Portuguese’s name is beginning to be bandied about in the corridors of the Emirates. The club knows it needs attacking depth if it is to compete in all competitions. Ramos is not the star of the moment, but he has attributes that could fit in well with the Spanish coach’s style. The question is: is he worth a swoop?

According to Caught Offside, the 23-year-old striker could switch clubs in the next transfer window. PSG have not given him continuity as a starter, as Luis Enrique has opted for systems without a fixed number nine. Even so, Ramos has delivered when he has had minutes. His current situation opens the door to a possible exit. Arsenal and Manchester United are interested, as are Newcastle and Aston Villa.

Arsenal are interested in Goncalo Ramos in the summer

The Parisians could consider offers if the price is right. The French invested a good sum to sign him from Benfica, so they will not give the player away easily. Manchester United have other targets, such as Jean-Philippe Mateta or Liam Delap, but Ramos is not out of the question. His profile fits as a viable alternative if the final cost is within the limits they manage.

In the case of Villa, the sale of Jhon Duran and the uncertainty over Watkins leave a gap in the attack. Newcastle could need a replacement if they finally sell Isak and let Callum Wilson leave. The Premier League offers an attractive scenario for Ramos, who needs playing time and a leading role. Arsenal, on the other hand, are already keeping a close eye on Viktor Gyökeres. That doesn’t stop them from looking at the Portuguese as a possible rotation reinforcement. It is not clear if Arteta sees him as a starter, but the interest exists. It will all depend on the price, the role he is offered and the player’s desire to make the step up.

Arsenal should look at this opportunity calmly. Ramos has conditions, but he is not a guarantee of immediate impact. If PSG do not ask for a disproportionate sum, he could be worth a complement. The PSG striker is not a signing that excites from the outset, but the team needs attacking depth. Arteta cannot rely solely on Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz in that area. The Portuguese offers mobility, flair and a different profile. If Gyökeres does not materialise, this option becomes more valuable. They should not get obsessed either: there are other names on the market.

As for his fit in Arteta’s scheme, Ramos can function well as a striker in rotation. He has a good reading for attacking space and presses with intensity. The PSG man is not the typical static nine. With players like Saka, Martinelli and Ødegaard around him, he could benefit from his associative ability. Moreover, he would not demand to be a starter from day one, and that gives him room to adapt without pressure. In Arsenal’s fluid system, that type of striker can shine if he understands the automatisms. The question is whether Ramos can perform when the team needs him urgently.
