Chelsea are ready to sell their star forward finally in the summer

Chelsea are ready to sell Christopher Nkunku

Sources close to the club have reported to Football Insider that Chelsea are already anticipating offers for the French striker, Christopher Nkunku, who is unhappy with his current situation at Stamford Bridge. Despite arriving as an important figure, the 27-year-old has lost importance in the squad and has been relegated to a secondary role. With a contract until June 2029, his future looks increasingly distant from Enzo Maresca’s project. The player is considering a change of direction, and rumours have been swirling in Europe.

Nkunku has not been a consistent starter in Maresca’s plans. The coach has not placed him regularly in any of his preferred positions: playmaker, winger or centre-forward. Even so, he has had an impact: 14 goals and five assists in 42 games. Figures that keep his reputation intact in the eyes of clubs across the continent. Football Insider revealed that the Blues believe they can recoup the £52m they paid for him. Insiders say the board is already preparing to listen to offers in the next window, and a number of European institutions are watching.

Chelsea are ready to sell Christopher Nkunku

Nkunku’s position is clear, as he does not want to continue in the same role. He was expected to be a protagonist, but ended up fitting in more as an occasional resource than as a permanent starter. At 27, Nkunku is looking for consistent minutes and prominence. Although his statistics are not bad, his role does not fit his aspirations, and Chelsea, for their part, do not seem willing to force him to stay. They see a sale as viable and could take advantage of the situation to reinvest in other areas of the pitch. Everything points to an amicable agreement if a convincing proposal arrives, and in this context, a transfer is very likely.

Chelsea are right not to close the door on him. A disgruntled player can become a silent problem, and if there are also suitors who are willing to pay what he cost, the exit is logical. But it is also a wake-up call. The club bet heavily on him, and the fact that he doesn’t fit in should lead to questioning the sporting planning. Maresca has not used him as expected. If the coach does not consider him indispensable, better to close the chapter now. Freeing up space and resources will help the team to refocus.

After his departure, Chelsea must rethink their attack. They need players who fit well with Maresca’s idea, and they can go for more versatile profiles, with the ability to adapt to the system without losing offensive impact. The key will be to choose well: neither media names nor meaningless gambles. Chelsea already have young players, and perhaps it is time to strengthen what they already have, instead of looking for another big-name signing. The club should focus on consolidating a squad and not just accumulating talent.
