England Or France?
There has been a lot of news lately on the current situation of Alexis Sanchez, who is possibly in his last few weeks at Arsenal. The Chilean forward’s contract expires in the summer and the club know that they need to sell him in the winter transfer window to earn some funds out of his sale in the coming window. Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are the two interested parties at the moment, with the Ligue 1 side leading the race.
Since Sanchez joined Arsenal back in 2014 from Spanish giants Barcelona, it has been a mixed set of emotions for the winger who has won two FA Cup’s with Arsenal and helped by scoring in each of them. But off late his performances have drawn criticism from the Arsenal faithful and has fallen out with his team-mates igniting speculation over a potential move from North London.
The 29-year old, however, has no shortage of admirers as Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City came close to signing him in August late this year and Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain keeping a close eye on him since quite a while. Manchester City were close to signing him in August but failed with a last-ditch move as Sanchez decided to run down his contract with Arsenal until the last year.
City are still looking to bolster their attacking options after leading the Premier League 11 points adrift from 2nd placed Manchester United but with the injury concerns Guardiola had during last season, the Spanish manager would not want such a situation to arise again. The blue side of Manchester is currently on a great run of form with a record winning streak in the Premier League at the moment. They look favorites to lift the League trophy by the end of the season with Guardiola’s second season in charge of the club.
Sanchez has been one of Arsenal’s most dangerous forwards with his close control and skill but has been somewhat of a misfit in the Gunners’ squad. His constant demanding of work from other players and waving his hands in the air in terms of ignorance and frustration has come under some criticism from the Arsenal board. Sanchez’s unhappiness makes it quite certain that the striker will be leaving the club when his contract expires.
French manager Arsene Wenger knows that he could raise funds by selling Sanchez in the winter transfer window and he could use those funds to lure in the players that he wants to build his team next season.
Sanchez is currently valued at around a price of £25m and with just six months left on his current Arsenal contract, surely the Gunners would not want to sell their superstar to a direct rival that is Manchester City.
Paris Saint-Germain would be a safer option for the north London giants at the moment but only time will tell where the 29-year-old Sanchez will end up in February.
There are also rumors about European champions Real Madrid keen on purchasing Sanchez, though he will surely be the talk of the town till something is decided.
