Adding Diomande would make sense only if the Frenchman left or if the team opted for a three centre-back defence. Otherwise, paying such a sum for a substitute breaks with the sporting and financial logic of the club.
Could that position change if another club steps forward? Yes, if Chelsea step on the gas and approach Sporting with a concrete proposal, Arsenal could act out of fear of losing a player they admire. Sometimes rival moves trigger impulsive reactions in the market, and Arteta’s side do not want to be left empty-handed again as happened with Mudryk.
What if interest from Aston Villa or Crystal Palace grows? Arsenal probably won’t see him as a threat.
