Chelsea Player Set To Sign For Arsenal

Chelsea Player Set To Sign For Arsenal

Arsenal have not made any big moves in the market this summer. However, that does not mean they are not preparing to strengthen key areas of the squad. Mikel Arteta has carefully assessed what players the squad is missing, especially in areas where they need reliability without spending a fortune. And goalkeeping is one of those areas.

With David Raya in the starting line-up and Aaron Ramsdale’s already gone, the club needed a second goalkeeper capable of responding without demanding a constant role. That context has opened the door for an unexpected but very interesting operation: the arrival of Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea.

Chelsea Player Set To Sign For Arsenal

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, the Gunners are very close to signing Kepa for just five million pounds. That figure corresponds to his buy-out clause at Stamford Bridge, where his contract expires in 2026. Chelsea no longer have him, and after loan spells at Real Madrid and Bournemouth, the Spanish goalkeeper is ready to move on. At Bournemouth he performed well under Andoni Iraola, and although the Cherries were considering a permanent move, it has been the north London club who have moved fastest. Arteta sees him as the ideal replacement for Neto, who will not remain at the Emirates after his loan spell.

BTP Opinion:

Does this deal make sense for Arsenal? Yes, very much so. Firstly, is it worth paying five million for a goalkeeper who failed to establish himself at Chelsea? The answer is yes, Kepa has Premiership experience, has played top level games and now comes without the pressure of being number one. His role will be secondary, but vital when Raya needs rest or is unable to play.

Secondly, will he accept being a non-conflict substitute? Everything points to yes. The goalkeeper wants to relaunch his career and knows that competing in a competitive environment like Arsenal can be good for his level and visibility, even if he doesn’t start.

Thirdly, what does Arsenal gain beyond savings? They gain security. They are not signing a promising player with no experience, but an experienced player, who has experienced both mistakes and redemptions. Moreover, it allows Arteta to rotate without compromising quality in secondary competitions.

From another angle, this signing also reflects the club’s pragmatism. Instead of obsessing over Joan Garcia, who is linked to Barcelona, they have opted for an accessible, useful and well-known solution. And although he is not a media signing, he is a functional one. Sometimes, great reinforcements don’t make noise; they simply solve problems. In that sense, Kepa could be the silent move that ends up being key in a long and demanding season.
