Can Arsenal outmaneuver Spurs to secure 31-year-old defensive midfielder, despite Tottenham’s edge with ex-Bees boss Thomas Frank?

Arsenal have been interested in signing Christian Norgaard in the summer transfer window; Tottenham are also interested

Arsenal continue to look for ways to strengthen their midfield. Mikel Arteta has not closed the door on possible departures, especially with Thomas Partey still in an uncertain situation. Although the Ghanaian remains at the club, his continuity is not assured.

With that scenario, the club are already exploring new options, looking for names that can offer stability, leadership and immediate performance. And among those being considered, one name is starting to gain traction: Christian Norgaard. The Brentford captain could be facing the big opportunity of his career. According to The Standard, both Arsenal and Tottenham would be willing to compete for his signature this summer.

The Gunners’ interest in Norgaard is not new, but it now seems more concrete. Partey’s situation has forced the club to accelerate contacts with potential replacements. In addition to Norgaard, the name of Lucien Agoumé has also emerged from Sevilla as a possible addition.

However, The Standard reports that Arsenal value the Dane’s experience and knowledge of the Premier League. Tottenham could have an advantage because of the relationship between Thomas Frank and Norgaard, but that does not rule out Arteta’s side, who are confident of the sporting project and the attraction of playing in the Champions League. Everything will depend on Brentford’s asking price and the player’s willingness.

Opinion:

Thinking about Norgaard’s profile, Arsenal would do well to fight for him if Partey leaves. The Dane is a reliable midfielder, strong in duels, and with the ability to organise the team from a low position. His experience as captain adds a plus, something Arteta has always valued in his recent signings. Compared to Agoumé, who has interesting conditions but less experience at the highest level,

Norgaard offers immediate guarantees. The risk is low, the impact can be high. The only thing that could complicate the operation is the possible influence of Thomas Frank on his decision. If Tottenham want him and the player feels loyalty to his former manager, Arsenal will have to move quickly. Even so, if the club presents a solid project and a convincing financial proposal, they can win the race.

However, it will all depend on priorities. If the aim is to replace Partey with someone who knows the league and has leadership, then Norgaard seems a more logical choice than Agoumé. The Frenchman could be a gamble for the future, but at a time when Arsenal want to compete for titles, going for someone proven can make all the difference.

Tottenham will carry weight because of their link with the manager, but the Gunners can counter that with ambition, assured minutes and the competitive context of the Champions League. Ultimately, if the price doesn’t skyrocket, Arsenal should make the effort. The midfield needs depth and personality. Norgaard can provide both.
