27-year-old informs his decision to join Arsenal

Should Arsenal capitalise on Viktor Gyokeres’ ultimatum to Sporting CP and secure him as their marquee striker?

The atmosphere in north London is boiling again. Arsenal, having fallen short in their bid to capture a title last season, are clear that the next step must come with a big-money signing up front. While Mikel Arteta has squeezed the most out of his attackers, the lack of a striker with lethal instincts has taken its toll.

With Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus as partial solutions, the Gunners have lacked a “nine” who can guarantee devastating numbers. As a result, Viktor Gyokeres’ name has begun to gain traction in the Emirates corridors as a potential star signing.

According to Record, via Sport Witness, Gyokeres has already told Frederico Varandas that he does not intend to return to training with Sporting CP and wants to leave for Arsenal now. The 27-year-old Swede spoke directly to the Portuguese club’s president and told him that his decision will not change.

Arsenal, aware of his desire, are already in contact with his entourage. Andrea Berta, sporting director of the London club, would be managing the operation from both fronts: that of the player and that of the Lisbon management. In the meantime, the club is also looking at RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, but everything points to the fact that only one will arrive.

Opinion:

What Gyokeres has done is not minor. He has put all his chips on the table and has directly challenged his club, making it clear that he only has red on his mind. At his age, with the physique and goalscoring output he showed in Portugal, he knows that an opportunity like this will not come around again. Arsenal must act now. They have a player who not only wants to get there but is willing to fight for it. You don’t see that every day. It’s not just about goals; it’s mentality, it’s hunger. It’s commitment.

What should be done?

Yes, Benjamin Sesko is young, talented, with room to grow. But Gyokeres offers something different. He doesn’t need to adapt to physical football. The Swede has no doubts. He is not waiting to be convinced. He’s already convinced. And when a striker of that profile stands up like that, an ambitious club like Arsenal must listen.

It must read the scene. If they let him go, someone else will take him. And then there will be regrets. Football is not forgiving of doubts. If Arsenal want to compete with Manchester City and not just be there, signings like this make a difference. They have the player, they have the pressure created, and they have the need. Now it’s up to them to decide. If they turn their back on him, he won’t wait. And maybe, in a few months, they will talk about how they let the “killer” who wanted to be a Gunner go.
