Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham, and Juventus set for a fierce tug-of-war over Sporting’s midfield leader

Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham, and Juventus battle to sign Sporting captain Morten Hjulmand amid rising transfer interest

Arsenal’s growing need for midfield depth has put them in the middle of another battle among Europe’s elite. The north Londoners, like several top clubs, have turned their eyes to Portugal. Morten Hjulmand’s steady rise at Sporting CP has caught everyone’s attention.

The Danish midfielder joined the Lisbon club from Lecce in 2023 and transformed himself into one of Ruben Amorim’s most dependable players. He shows control, balance, and leadership in midfield, which earned him the captain’s armband. These qualities made him one of the most talked-about players in Europe.

According to Ekrem Konur, Manchester United lead the chase. Their interest faces strong competition from Arsenal, Tottenham, and Juventus. Amorim’s connection with Hjulmand adds another twist to the story. The Sporting coach, who brought the midfielder to Portugal, reportedly wants to reunite with him at Old Trafford. United see him as the ideal replacement for Casemiro, who will likely leave at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Arsenal want greater competition in midfield. Mikel Arteta believes Hjulmand’s versatility can strengthen the team’s balance. Spurs are also in the hunt, and Thomas Frank keeps pushing for a commanding presence in the centre of the park. Juventus, though, create a different challenge. The Serie A side admire Hjulmand but hesitate to pay €60-70 million because they plan to sign a striker instead. Sporting included an €80 million release clause, which makes the race a test of ambition and patience.

Why Juventus might suit Hjulmand best?

Hjulmand’s story naturally points back to Italy. He impressed in Serie A with Lecce, so returning to Italian football would feel familiar. Juventus look like the most fitting destination for a player with his tactical sharpness and discipline.

He reads the game well and controls the rhythm of play, which fits perfectly into Juventus’ pragmatic system under Igor Tudor. The manager reportedly values Hjulmand’s calmness and intelligence. These qualities will help steady their midfield and free their creative players ahead of him.

At Arsenal, he would bring strength and reliability. Yet the pace and intensity of the Premier League could demand a longer adjustment period. Tottenham’s setup fits his leadership and tackling skills.

However, the transfer fee and the challenge of adapting to English football make it a tricky move. Juventus, on the other hand, will offer familiarity and stability. Their system will match Hjulmand’s footballing sense. A move to Turin looks the most seamless and balanced path. It benefits both the player and the club.
