Arsenal contact Brazilian club for this 20-year-old gem

Arsenal transfer news

Arsenal have officially registered their interest in Corinthians midfielder Breno Bidon. Fresh reports from TNT Sports in Brazil confirm the North London club’s approach. Earlier rumours suggested vague monitoring.

However, this new update specifies that Arsenal directors contacted both Corinthians and Dodici Sports, the agency representing the 20-year-old prospect. These conversations focused on gauging the player’s situation rather than submitting a financial proposal.

So, the clubs exchanged no formal figures. This leaves Arsenal in a preliminary phase alongside Manchester United, who also remain on the periphery of this transfer saga.

Chelsea, conversely, stand as the sole Premier League side to have actively tested Corinthians’ stance. Their initial bid, however, fell significantly short of the Brazilian club’s valuation. Corinthians hold a firm stance regarding Bidon’s future.

They prefer to retain the 20-year-old until the conclusion of their domestic season to support their Copa Libertadores campaign. Local outlet Itatiaia suggests the board will only sanction an immediate departure if a suitor presents a massive financial package.

Manager Dorival Júnior recently emphasised Bidon’s importance to squad balance. He stated that he wished to keep the team intact. For now, the player continues his development in Brazil. He is waiting to see if a European giant forces Corinthians’ hand.

A Strategic Move for the Future?

This potential transfer feels distinctly different from Arsenal’s recent high-profile signings. Rather than an immediate starter, Bidon represents a long-term investment. This echoes the strategy that brought Gabriel Martinelli to the Emirates.

The likelihood of a January deal seems low given Corinthians’ stubbornness. They require a high fee to sell him mid-season. Fans should expect this story to develop over the summer unless Arsenal decide to trigger a release clause or offer a substantial premium.

Tactically, Bidon looks like an interesting fit for Mikel Arteta. He operates as a controller in midfield. The Brazilian possesses the technical security and passing range that Arteta demands. He would likely initially serve as a rotation option. This would allow him to adapt to the Premier League’s physicality while learning from established stars like Declan Rice.

His versatility allows him to cover multiple central roles, which is a trait Arteta highly prizes. The main question remains whether Arsenal will commit significant funds to a developmental player while pushing for major titles. It is a bit of a risk. However, it could pay huge dividends if Bidon matures into the elite playmaker that many in Brazil expect him to become.
