Cricket Rules Or A Headache!? Cricket is known as The Gentleman’s Game, though like every game out there, it goes through some changes and upgrades from time to time. Some of these so-called changes are for the actual betterment of the game. While others can be a nuisance more often than not. And it either makes no sense or Pundits are forced at times and eventually try to make sense out of it.
For a game that has a long history, it puts us through a lot of emotions. When these moments are made based on the talent, skill and techniques on the pitch, it’s not a concern. However, when some manipulated rules or loop-holes within the game of Cricket grab the headlines, it’s a different story altogether.
If it creates controversy, then it probably just isn’t worth having. This is something that the Gentleman’s Game likes to keep it’s motto. However, there are some exceptions to everything from time to time.
There are some rules and regulations, managing which can be a task in itself. And these have people wondering ‘Why do we even need them!?’
3. No separate reviews for wide/no-ball
If the idea of a review is to reduce/minimize errors, then this is a must. It does not make sense to merge the reviews against wicket taking decisions to be merged with the ones to check for a potential wide or a no-ball.
The magnitude of one run versus the magnitude of an entire game is incomparable. Hence, many a times when a player/batter may feel that the umpire may have made a potentially incorrect wide call, he let’s it go.
On the other hand, no batter ever reviews a bouncer even if there is any doubt of a no-ball. This is because who would want to risk wasting a review. However, a potential free-hit that could have been awarded can make a huge difference in a crunch situation, especially in a T20 game.
Why not just separate out the wicket reviews and the extra reviews into two different categories and make the game better!?
Can we make things a bit easier for captains!?
2. Wide declared as a bouncer; bizarre!!
Now, this is one of the weirdest rules that i have ever seen. And it makes absolutely ZERO sense to me.
If a bouncer is being called as a wide, then why in the world does it take away the ability of the bowler to bowl another legal one!?
Why does only the Indian Premier League allow two bouncers in an over and not other Leagues. Furthermore, if you want your fast bowlers to be fierce and aggressive, then why curb their wings. Why not give something more for the followers, especially the likes of T20 and T10 coming in!?
LOGIC had passed away in silence!!
1. Umpire’s call: One of the worst cricket rules ever made!?
No article on a silly cricket rule can be complete without the Umpires Rule debate. At the end of the day, why make the Umpire a scapegoat but putting the blame on him.
Just say Out or Not Out and get on with it. With already the abuse and hate on Social Media, the Premier League (FA and PGMOL) and other governing bodies under FIFA, protect referees.
Even other sports like Tennis, Volleyball and more, use technology to support the officials. But Cricket is the only sport that uses Technology for LBWs (DRS) and then crucifies the official at the end of it.
Again, please make it make sense!!
I don’t do Cricket content that often. But if this article made sense to you, do share it with your friends. And do tell us which other rule needs a serious change!? Text us and let us know on our FB page!!
