Will Gunners win the race? Arsenal enter race with Chelsea and Tottenham for 21-year-old midfielder

Arsenal

The race for the English top flight is a whirlwind of emotions as we hit the final weeks of April 2026. Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are suddenly on shaky ground after a shock home loss to Bournemouth, a result that gave Manchester City the opening they needed to close the gap at the top. This slump came right after a painful FA Cup exit to Southampton, though the Gunners did manage to scrape a narrow lead in their Champions League quarter-final first leg against Sporting CP.

Meanwhile, things at Stamford Bridge are still in a state of flux as Liam Rosenior tries to embed his philosophy after taking over from Enzo Maresca earlier this year. The Blues show plenty of pace and power, but they’re still searching for the consistency required to break back into the top tier of the table.

On the other side of North London, Tottenham Hotspur are in a full-blown crisis under Roberto De Zerbi. After a bruising defeat at Sunderland, Spurs have actually dropped into the relegation zone. It’s a desperate scrap for survival that has fans on edge, with the squad looking lost during what has become a nightmare run for the Lilywhites.

Spanish reports identify Noah Sadiki as the next big summer transfer target

Word out of Spain suggests Arsenal have put Sunderland midfielder Noah Sadiki at the top of their list to beef up their midfield this summer. The 21-year-old DR Congo international has had a breakout debut season in England, becoming a mainstay for the Black Cats since moving from Union SG.

Despite his age, the defensive specialist has already clocked 2,387 minutes across 27 Premier League games this term, keeping up an 85% pass completion rate and an average FotMob rating of 6.87. He hasn’t bagged a goal or an assist yet, but his physicality and seven yellow cards show a gritty style of play that has elite scouts watching closely (stats via footy stats).

Sunderland are in a strong spot, though, since Sadiki is under contract until 2030; any club wanting him will have to pay a massive premium to get him out of the Stadium of Light. Chelsea and Tottenham are also keeping tabs on the youngster, which could set the stage for a chaotic bidding war once the window opens.

€35M bid? Arsenal in transfer tussle with Liverpool for 11 G/A player

Should Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham gamble on a young prospect from the Stadium of Light?

Arsenal definitely need a long-term replacement for Christian Norgaard. The Danish veteran is dealing with mounting disciplinary issues and the inevitable physical wear and tear that comes with playing at the base of the midfield. Arteta needs someone with Sadiki’s profile to provide real defensive cover, giving his creative players the freedom to attack without worrying about getting caught on the break.

Tottenham’s situation is even more pressing, especially with Joao Palhinha likely headed back to Bayern Munich once his disappointing loan ends. De Zerbi needs a fighter to fix a broken midfield, but the very real threat of Championship football might make it hard to convince a rising star like Sadiki to sign on.

Chelsea already have plenty of options in Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, so bringing in another defensive midfielder seems unnecessary unless they plan to move their current stars around. Ultimately, Sadiki will want regular playing time to keep developing, which makes the Emirates the most sensible move for a player ready for the top level of European football.
