Another week of the year brings another Blood Red podcast and loads to discuss in the Liverpool tent. It’s Southampton up next and this is gonna be a vital match to win for the Anfield soldiers. They are now at 4th position in the point table, one point behind the Spurs with one match less. They need to win the clash to secure top 4 in the Premier League. Liverpool is full of former Southampton players but does the likes of Dejan Lovren, Virgil van Dijk and Adam Lallana deserve the frosty reception they’re likely to receive at St Mary’s?
Besides tomorrow’s high voltage match, the transfer issues never got rid of this Merseyside. The French player who had been hunted by the two big teams of Premier League Arsenal and Liverpool has finally lost his track off to the Anfield. According to a Liverpool based newspaper, Klopp and his team have cooled their interest in Monaco attacking midfielder Thomas Lemar. It has been revealed that the France international is no longer the part of Liverpool’s transfer window plan this summer.
Thomas Lemar who has been sensational last season helping the side to clinch the French league and boosting in Champions League got the spotlight in the transfer window from the last summer break. This attacking midfielder has managed to score three times this season with five assists.
Lemar has been heavily discussed as a potential replacement for Philippe Coutinho, who was sold to Barcelona for £142m in January.
Reports in France also suggested that Liverpool’s hopes of signing him had been reinforced by his refusal to open a new contract.
However, the recent updates showing a different scenario. The Reds are no longer interested in the 22-year-old and are focusing their attention elsewhere.
Sporting Director of Liverpool, Michael Edwards did a talk with Monaco last August but the Reds were failed to convert that into an agreement with the Ligue One midfielder. After that, the late interest from Arsenal rocketed the price of this 22-years-old and he ended up breaking the negotiation.
Liverpool maintained close observations on Lemar throughout the first half of this season but after the exit of Coutinho from Anfield, Jurgen Klopp decide to not making another attempt to sign him.
Maybe one of the reason was the £90m price tag which the Reds boss felt was excessive and unnecessary. The German Manager believes that cash would be better spent elsewhere this summer.
Lemar caught everyone’s eyes after bagging 14 goals and providing 17 assists last year. Monaco won the French title and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League last season.
Liverpool desperately needs an alternative of the star player Coutinho. According to some rumours, the Bundesliga boy Christian Pulisic has emerged as an alternative target to Thomas Lemar and Borussia Dortmund could sell in the summer. A German-based sports channel claim the German side would consider offers in the region of €100m [£88m] for the 19-year-old.
Although it is expected that the Reds will face stiff competition for his signature with Bayern Munich and Manchester United also linked.
In the past, Liverpool tried to sign Pulisic in 2016 for a mere £11m but was knocked back by Dortmund.
