Know Your Player :10 Things You Didn’t Know About Manchester United’s Paul Pogba

Paul Labile Pogba,  is  a  renowed  French  footballer who plys his trade in England  for the club Manchester United.  Pogba was born  to Guinean parents. He is a Muslim. Growing up he was an ardent fan of English club  Arsenal FC. His career began or rather kicked off with Manchester United in 2011. Pogba joined Italian side Juventus in 2012 on a free transfer, and helped the club to four consecutive SERIE A titles, as well as two Coppa Italia and two Supercoppa Italiana titles. He spent four seasons at the club, during which time, he established himself as one of the most promising young players in the world, and received the Golden Boy award in 2013.

This was just supposed to be the beginning. This accolade was followed by the Bravo award in 2014 and was named by The Guardian as one of the ten most promising young players in Europe.

In 2016, Pogba was named to the 2015 UEFA Team of the Year as well as the 2015 FIFA FIFPro World XI, after helping Juventus  reach the 2015 UEFA Champions League Final. He may have left Manchester United on a free transfer, but Pogba returned to the club in 2016 for a then-world record transfer fee of €105m (£89.3m).

Here are the 10 things we bet ,  you didn’t know about this French superstar:-

Pogba has been nicknamed as “Paul , the octopus” during his time time at club Juventus because of his long legs . He was also known as “Pogboom” for his explosive and aggressive playing style.Paul Pogba is best friends with bad boy Mario Balotelli .  In near future , if at all you see both of them walking towards  you ,   you know you shouldn’t act smart in front of them .

Pogba has been playing since the age of six. Starting at a tender age of six, he moved from one youth team to the other, changed clubs  and learnt a lot along the way.Manchester United stole Pogba.  During his first spell at the club, French club Havre claimed that United paid 87,000 pounds and got an house for the French footballer to lure him to the “Theatre of Dreams”. The French club stuck to their claims and carried out investigations. However , they couldn’t prove anything.

Paul Pogba took his mum to the Ballon D’or ceremony. Contrary to the expectation of footballers turning up with either their wives or girlfriends . This is something  I’m sure pogba and his mum are never going to forget . This shows that he is a mama’s boy through and through .

Paul Pogba was once sent off for spitting on an opponent . This happened when Juventus were playing the last match of 2012/13 season against  Palermo .  A Palermo defender slapped Pogba during the match , and as a reaction to that  Pogba spit in the direction of that defender .  He was sent off immediately by the match referee.

Football runs in the family for Pogba .He has two older twin brothers who are also footballers. His eldest brother named Florentin currently plays his trade  for French side Saint Etienne while  his other  sibling Matthias plays for Dutch club Sparta Rotterdam and Guinea National team .

Pogba is referred to as “Mr Silverware” by the football fraternity . He has won four SERIE A titles, an U20 World Cup, two Europa League titles, Golden Boy award, Golden Ball , and was nominated to FIFAPRO XI  three times. All this at a tender age of 24 .Pogba didn’t get along  well with legendary Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson .

When Pogba left United for Juventus in 2012 ,  Ferguson publicly claimed that the French player was disrespectful towards the club. Pogba retaliated to that by saying that Ferguson was always rude to him and never gave him enough playing time.Pogba played alongside his hero. Pogba has been an admirer of Pirlo since childhood and got to play with him. Pogba said “ I’m a fan of Pirlo. He’s my hero. He has won everything that is win. I want to be like him someday.”
