The recent uprising of Premier League side Tottenham in the last few years not only for the prolific striking ability of Harry Kane, but also a round of applause must go for the men before the wall. Toby Alderweireld is one of them who has pulled the chariot of success for the Spurs being back in the deep. Along with Hugo Lloris as their Keeper, Tottenham has built up a strong defence behind.
This Belgian international will be out of his contract after the next season, which invited a tons of proposals for him. He arrived in North London back in 2015 from Atletico Madrid and has undergone 78 appearances from then.
Tottenham can extend his contract by another year, but doing so will activate the release clause of £25m. Despite of all these, big names of Europe has already initiated their footsteps to pen this man in their squad. Names like Manchester United, Liverpool and Barcelona are already being linked. It is rumoured that Real Madrid is not far enough.
Manchester United kept a steady watch on this Belgian defender, but things have never gone too far due to cold relationship with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy. Two hijacks in a season, Lukaku and Sanchez, though the later one is not proved successful yet, Jose Mourinho is reported to give his everything to strengthen their defence. David De Gea looks like a single warrior and the Red Devils defence must improve from where they are now.
Though the defender has recently refused to budge on his wage demands and that triggered his chances to leave the Wembley. According to the report, Alderweireld is asking for a £180,000 a week salary, same as Van Dijk earns at Liverpool, but Tottenham have a strict wage policy, and it seems they would never agree to pay him anywhere near the amount.
So after departure of Kyle Walker to Manchester City in a £45m switch last summer, it may be Alderweireld, who is next.
