Liverpool’s Loss Is Manchester United’s Gain : How Jose Mourinho Outsmarted Jurgen Klopp, Rashford Returns With A Bang

Jose Mourinho

Manchester United emerged victorious against Liverpool with a margin of 2-1 at Old Trafford on Saturday in the Premier League. With this win, Manchester United remained at the second position in the League Table. Manchester United have collected 65 points in 30 matches so far and Liverpool have now collected 60 Points in the same number of matches played.

With this positive result against one of the top sides in the English Football, Jose Mourinho will be confident to finish at the top four positions in the League Table at the end of the season. It will be enough for them to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season, the biggest event of European Football. With the management of Jose Mourinho, Manchester United are trying to regain their previous glorious days back. Now in the next season their main target will be winning UEFA Champions League by defeating all other top European clubs to win the title next season.

It was Marcus Rashford, the hero of Manchester United in this match against Liverpool. Liverpool players were not looking at their best as the trio of Roberto Firmino,Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah were looking ineffective at the upfront of the field. Marcus Rashford was not getting enough chances in the starting line up of Manchester United from the beginning. The arrival of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal in the winter transfer window had made it more difficult for the English youngster to get into the first eleven of the star studded team.

At the 14th minute of the match, Romelu Lukaku’s pass to Marcus Rashford had given Manchester United the important lead in the match in the first half. After some moments, Rashford doubled up the scoreline for United. It was a 2 goal lead at the midway of the first half in the vital match in terms of earning qualification spots in the next season’s UEFA Champions League. Marcus Rashford was shown a yellow card some moments later due to bad foul. Alex Oxlade Chamberlain also put his name in the referee’s notebook from the side of Liverpool in the first half. The first half had ended up with Manchester United leading with a 2 goal margin at Old Trafford.

It was seeming that the good old days had finally come at Old Trafford. But Eric Bailly’s own goal in the second half had made the match look very intense. Adam Lallana was brought in for Alex Oxlade Chamberlain to bring some hope of getting the equaliser. Somehow, Liverpool were not playing their best football. Their attacks were not looking so much threatening as it looked like in the match against Manchester City. 6 minutes of extra time was added after the completion of 90 minutes; but Manchester United were able to see that time out. Their defenders were looking solid at the back and it had resulted to a win for Manchester United against Liverpool with a margin of 2-1 at the end. Manchester United will now face Sevilla in the second leg of round of 16 clash in UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.
